Gouverneur Hotel Montreal

Handy location to concert venues. Neighbourhood is a little rough but the hotel is not. Easy access to parking. I don't use the other amenities (pool, restaurant etc) but if you are looking for a clean, reasonable hotel close to St Denis Theatre, Olympia venues, this works well.

"Some unexpected nice features."
I was mainly looking for a reasonably priced hotel near public transportation to attend a meeting for 4 days. The hotel satisfied both criteria with very good rates and a Metro station across the street. The room itself, while small, was well furnished and surprise surprise the bathroom came complete with a jacuzzi tub. The desk was good for work and somehow they fit a very comfortable large easy chair into the room. Wifi was as promised free and remarkably fast. Staff were almost uniformly pleasant and helpful.

"Nice affordable hotel in downtown area"
Nice hotel for the money. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. The pillows could have been a little bigger though. The hotel restaurant had decent food. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no parking at the hotel. You had to park a block down at the public library and pay a daily fee. I would probably go back there in the future

"Expensive for what you get, nice breakfast"
The staff was very nice and professional at check-in. The room was OK, but for the price, it was a bit too simple. The breakfast was a great surprise. We enjoyed the various options and the high quality of the products served. The location is good as it is very central to reach many touristic destinations, but at night it was a bit rough as there are a lot of beggars and drunk people in the neighborhood. The front desk person, very friendly (Dorina), suggested that we park our car in the library garage 1st level, which was a great tip as it was a good price ($12 for 24 hours and $9 on weekends), and it was only 2 minutes walk from the hotel. She also suggested a good place to eat (vegetarian buffet called Resto), which was a nice options with good prices.

"Use the illusion"
I used to work in hotels and the front desk can be stressful and there are a lot of things going on, sometime things go wrong but there is no reason to let the guest in on it. If Expedia usually enters the booking in the system but faxed it instead, no need to tell your coworker and me about it for 5 minutes. If a payment method for a direct bill has to be entered, there is no reason to make me wait while you figure it out, I already paid. The hotel was nice enough and the location is good. Parking was a problem but there is a public lot not far away. From the trauma of my loooong check in, I thought it would be a disaster but overall, doable.

Hotel is extremely well located. The staff is nice. You need to request for maid service by putting a card on your door. The room was kinda small but it was well worth the price.

For starters, you can’t miss the University of Quebec Montreal. The school has given rise to bookshops, late-night cafes, and lived-in pubs. The Latin Quarter is also home to the biggest LBGT-friendly area of the city. Falling mostly along the rue Saint-Catherine, this section of the city is the site of the annual Montreal Pride Celebration.

The biggest attraction of town is the Grand Bibliotheque. This massive library is home to thousands of tomes and archives. It’s common to see both students and locals relaxing in the aisles with a good book in hand. The Cinematheque is another popular spot in the neighbourhood. Founded in 1963, the Cinematheque is a movie conservatory, with dozens of preserved films. There are often public showings for visitors--though keep in mind, most movies are shown in French.
