"Nice Basic Hotel"
Morning breakfast included in the room rate was very good especially since most nearby restaurants did not serve breakfast. Pool, sauna, and basic gym were nice amenities.

"Great Location, Great Price, Threadbare but Clean"
The hotel itself is showing a bit of wear and tear, and even scrupulously cleaned it can be hard to make older buildings seem clean. It's clearly cleaned and maintained as well as it can be, and has a well-loved quality. The staff member who checked me in and out (possibly a manager or owner?) was extraordinarily gracious and helpful. He gave me tonnes of ideas for things to see and do during my trip. Any language problems were minor and staff was kind and patient with my English/lousy French, even those who spoke minimal English. Communication among staff members could have been better; requests made of overnight staff didn't consistently make it to day staff, for example. The price was very reasonable. The location was very central; getting around on foot and by metro was easy. Other guests got a bit noisy on the weekend nights and around check out time on Sunday, so maybe not ideal for light sleepers. Very peaceful during the week.

Very close to the best parts of Montreal. Price is always right. Pay the extra few dollars for the 'suite' - type room.

"A hidden gem in a great location"
I picked this one after reading many reviews because it had amenities I wanted and it was close to public transportation. I was not disappointed at all. The hotel was easy to find from the Berri-UQAM Metro station--it is across the street from the Place Dupuis exit and near multiple pick up/drop off points for the 747 bus from PE Trudeau Int'l Airport. The staff members were friendly and helpful, and they confidently used English with me without problems. They went above and beyond basic service in my opinion. For example, Pierre tried to help me with computer problems when I wanted to upload my photos, and Amir helped find a bag so I could pack my luggage according to customs regulations. I chose the economy room because I was traveling solo. It is a very small room that would not work for someone with mobility issues, but it was truly charming and adorably perfect. My room even had a padded window seat. I would sit there in the mornings to eat my breakfast and at night when I was winding down from the day. The bed itself was comfortable; I never had any trouble sleeping even though my window faced the street. The new wood floors were also very stylish. I had gone to Montreal for my birthday, and I mentioned it to Jason upon check-in. When I returned to the room that day after visiting several sites, a small birthday gift (a box of 4 chocolates) and hand written card from the staff waited for me in my room. It was such a lovely thing to do!

Overnight parking is a tad tricky. And escaping before 8a is a corn maze. But otherwise it was splendid.

"Great location. You get what you pay for. "
Oldish but selectively renovated hotel. The staff is top notch and very friendly. Our room end tables were dusty and there was an oldish, think grandmas house, bed spread on the bed. Oldish carpet. No bad smells but it isn't a well renovated hotel.

For starters, you can’t miss the University of Quebec Montreal. The school has given rise to bookshops, late-night cafes, and lived-in pubs. The Latin Quarter is also home to the biggest LBGT-friendly area of the city. Falling mostly along the rue Saint-Catherine, this section of the city is the site of the annual Montreal Pride Celebration.

The biggest attraction of town is the Grand Bibliotheque. This massive library is home to thousands of tomes and archives. It’s common to see both students and locals relaxing in the aisles with a good book in hand. The Cinematheque is another popular spot in the neighbourhood. Founded in 1963, the Cinematheque is a movie conservatory, with dozens of preserved films. There are often public showings for visitors--though keep in mind, most movies are shown in French.
