"Old World Charm in the New World"
We couldn't really make a trip to France at this time, so we chose Montreal for a brief stay. We found this hotel, Pierre du Calvet on Expedia AND on the "the things to do in Montreal" websites. It truly was a trip to the past, built in 1725 it offered the wonderful "old rock" walls and quirkiness one expects in old buildings; meandering passages, hidden rooms full of old books, old carpets and odd objects d'art, secret gardens and even a small aviary with talking birds. In furnishing the guest rooms, they have used period reproductions for the most part with a most enchanting effect. I really felt as if I were staying in an old palace. The restaurant was quite good and it was very nice to start the day with a large breakfast being served to you. The staff of both this small, 10 guest rooms, hotel and restaurant were very nice, showed a pride in their positions at such a delightful establishment and seemed interested in making our stay pleasant. All in all, it oozes charms on a very large proportion.

Large room and enormous, contemporary bathroom. Comfortable bed and lux linens. With just 30 rooms the staff are attentive and greet guests each time they go thru the libby. Wish they included breakfast in the room charge.
