Beautifully restored old West End house

Posted 14-Dec-2017
This is a old house that has been converted to a hotel with 7 guest rooms. The owners live in the basement floor apartment. The care and maintenance the place receives is obvious everywhere. And the furnishings are a lovely collection of late 19th and early 20th century antiques. To match the period when the house was originally built. The sit-down breakfast is served in a dinning room with all guests eating at the same time. 8:00am for weekdays. Later for weekends and holidays. If you can't make the time work for you, the staff will prepare breakfast sandwiches for you "to go". Just leave them a note the night before. For out stay we had salmon scrambled eggs one day and poached egg on toast with ham, bacon and spinach. Excellently prepared both days. Snacks and access to the kettle for tea and instant drinks is available 24/7. The days we were there they had several different muffins and cookies - all made in the kitchen on the premises. A guest accessible refrigerator is located there (no coffee pot, mini bar or frig located in the rooms). I rated room comfort at 4 stars because the rooms are cramped. The room we had had a king size bed, which I think was a bit too big for the square footage of floor space available. We had to dance around each other as we moved around the room. But that was a minor inconvenience to us. Some people may want more space though, so I mention it here. We go to Vancouver several times a year and we plan to go back to the West End Guest House.

Exceptional Business Stay

Posted 7-Dec-2017
Pros: The morning breakfast, and the baked goods/refreshments available throughout the day. Personal attentiveness, and hospitality. Being greeted by Pam!
Cons: I didn't realise that I could use the fridge in the common area right away. It would be nice to have a micowave/toaster oven if possible.
Location: Robson/Jervis- late night food (Ramen Santouka). Scenic, quick walk to Stanley Park. Walk to The Bay in 15 minutes.
I travel extensively for work, and my Vancouver trip, involves quite a bit of driving, and very long days with no breaks. That being said, my time at the West End Guest House was the highlight of my travel season this year. Obviously, business travel requires different services than leisure, so I was taking a chance booking at a smaller B&B. There were other business travelers there, and the B&B was well equipped to deal with my particular needs. I sent several boxes ahead of time which were brought up to my room before I arrived. Pam, the hostess greeted me personally when I arrived. The room, and the common areas were well-appointed, and comfortable. Service at breakfast and throughout the day was friendly, but professional. The formal breakfast was plentiful, and delicious. There was always something available in the kitchenette to snack on as well as self-serve tea and coffee, and when they heard that I had been skipping lunch, they even packed up two extra muffins to get me through the day. Parking was never a problem, and the location was extremely walkable. Many quick places open for late night meals. I simply have not experienced this level of hospitality in any business hotel, anywhere. It has left a positive impression on this seasoned traveller.

Great location

Lots of great restaurants within easy walking distance. Breakfasts provided by the West End Guest House were excellent. Only critical comment - the TV in the room was old and tired - small screen and mediocre image quality. Would like to see the TVs upgraded. That said, will come back.

Charming Retreat in the Middle of the Big City

Posted 7-Nov-2017
My stay at the West End Guest House was perfect weekend getaway. My room was comfortable and charming, the breakfast was gourmet, healthy, delicious and other guests so fun to chat with. We could relax at any time in the living room by the fire and there was a stocked butler's pantry for our use. The locaction is parallel to Robson St, a main shopping street, close to restaurants, movies, Stanley Park. I've found my home in Vancouver.

Great bed and breakfast

The staff met us at the door and were most helpful. Wonderful breakfasts, fresh baked goods in the afternoon, comfortable room, and all on a quiet street close to downtown. We loved it.

So glad we decided to stay here!

Posted 8-Oct-2017
We were debating between staying here or an Airbnb for 3 nights and we’re so glad we stayed here! Barb and staff were really great and super friendly. The breakfast was delicious and a great start to each day. We loved the pastries and sodas that were available any other time of day. Barb even made a chocolate cake to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We had the executive queen room with a very comfortable bed and nice bathroom, including robes. The location was great for walking to dinner, Granville Island (plus a ferry ride) or even gastown for a longer walk. And it was convenient having a parking space for our rental car for the longer trips. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks so much!
