"Nice resort, overall lovely staff, beautiful grounds. Wifi is included but 'general visitor' for the whole place and terrible requiring sign ins over 10 times per day. Food was good, restaurants mediocre with minimal choices and same salad bar. Formal night means nothing, allowing flips, shorts and Ts. Disappointment Bars were few with long lineups, the hand washing of the plastic drink cups was ever concerning. Drinks were good though and those poor bartenders tried their best. 'No reserving chairs with towels'!!! All chairs claimed by 6:30am with no enforcing, some left the full day with no occupant but reserved. Forced us to do the same, get out of bed on vacation by 6 or we would have no chairs for 8 people. Beach was nice 'VIP' area was mostly empty. Resort is too far to walk to anything other than a walk. Entertainment staff were great and hard working, as were the wait staff (buffet only, not restaurants) and the golf cart drivers were awesome. Overall nice trip except 2 of our group left sicker than dogs. Thank you blue bay, abd for considering is VIP with some extra perks because we booked with Expedia, checking with the reat of our group who booked a westjet vacation or just booked through the resort, we seemed to have paid for that perk. "

"Disappointed with Grand Princess Riviera/Sunset. Our flight was canceled, causing us to arrive a day late. We got to the resort around 1 AM, had to carry our own luggage up two flights of stairs, and were told an extra night would cost 3 times as much. Staff acted like rooms weren’t available, even though the resort was empty and under construction. We were denied both a refund and the ability to shift our dates. Guests shouldn’t have to cover costs caused by circumstances beyond their control. Hoping for a fair resolution. "

"I have been here several times now. Here’s what sets excellence apart from other resorts: wide range of quality, restaurants, including Indian and Teppanyaki; high quality alcohol included, including 1921 tequila cream that is hard to find outside of Mexico; two story rooftop suite is fantastic; Excellence Club services (if you choose a room in that section) are very good. New reservations needed for restaurants, and all of them are included. The beach is large and sandy, not rocky. There’s a lazy river as well. "

"The experience started off horrible it got better but overall very disappointing. We coordinated and paid $160 for a shuttle through the hotel to be picked up from airport. We were never picked up when we arrived. After 2 hours of waiting they just apologized and we got our own taxi. You would think they would give us a room upgrade or comp something for the being left at airport but no. Just apologized and said it was their fault. The room had a musty dirty smell. The hotel food was mediocre. There was only one bar open in the whole hotel after 5pm. Drinks were watered down. The gym was open 24 hours which was great but a lot of equipment was broken for our entire stay. The entertainment team was the highlight they were very friendly and fun. We extended our vacation in playa del Carmen by 3 days if this hotel treated us better we would have just stayed there. But decided to go across the street to Hyatt Vivid and what a night and day difference. Place was phenomenal. Hyatt is more expensive but absolutely worth every penny."

"We went with a large friend group 19 of us in total. The resort was perfect for us, everyone enjoyed it (44-68). All the staff were amazing. The resort was very clean and well maintained. The daily room refresh always made our room very clean. Within our group we did three different excursions booked through Margarita. Our group thoroughly enjoyed them. Tulum+Cenotes, Catamaran, Reef Snorkeling. The activities team is amazing. There are low energy to high energy activities. Most of our group are early risers so activates ending by 11PM was perfect for us. We enjoyed the morning tai chi, yoga, stretching with Viri; volleyball games, aquafit, crazy games with Susana, Victor and Moises and all the evening shows. The lounge chairs under netting by the beach were our go to spot in the morning. We didn't find we need to secure any early and just used them while we were there. The only area that was very busy for chairs was around the pools. Every day we enjoyed the pizza (or Tacos on Tuesday) by El Charro, it was great as a snack. The Mexicano was a favourite amongst our group. The hidden gem for food for me was the sushi bar. This is part of the Japanese restaurant and cannot be booked in advance but is walk in. It was never very busy when I was there, I'm not sure if many realized you could just walk into it. If you enjoy Sushi I would recommend checking it out. We'd start each day with a mimosa during breakfast and try the drink of the day afterwards."
