We were upgraded from Barcelo Maya Tropical to Barcelo Maya Riviera adults only upon arrival.
Probably because the former one is mostly for families with kids.
Barcelo Maya Riviera resort was unbelievably good, 5 stars. The resort's staff works extremely hard to make guests feel happy, at least three shifts, with great attention to details,
The facilities and architecture are perfect: new, spacious, and convenient. The food quality and variety is beyond imagination. The service is exceptional. For the money spent and enjoyments received, It is very unlikely you would be able to find something even close to it in the U.S. Would definitely go there again.
Only one thing needs improvement: entertainment. While all other Barcelo neighboring resorts have their own theaters with diverse and interesting programs every evening starting 9:30 pm, Barcelo Maya Riviera has no stage and rather tedious and loud programme starting at 10:45 pm. I am sure those people who are staying next to the central lobby are not quite happy with all this noise. And this is considering that the huge arena is just next to the hotel. In fact, even for the New Year party, they had only one Mexican band singing, although great, very similar to the foreign ear songs all the way to the New Year! On Dec 29th, we went to the Kukulkan theater of the Barcelo Maya Tropical and they had a great show “Mexican Fiesta” featuring a different and interesting program. Why not to have the same in the Riviera resort? But
