Such a beautiful hidden gem. This is now my favourite place. Loved the atmosphere the rooms were modern yet vintage. Loved the no tv. Sadly they will not be open for the next two years. But when the renovations are done we will be there!!!!

Nostalgia of a Bygone Time
First off, the Hotel Selkirk is not modern as it is built to depict a bygone era prior to fridges and TVs. So these are not available in the rooms but a modern one cup coffee maker is, which is a departure from the overall pioneer ambiance. It is located within Fort Edmonton Park and very close to the Capitol Theater where we watch 'West Side Story' on the Friday evening. Dinner and breakfast were very tasty and the price comparative to other local dining establishments. The staff members were very friendly which contributed greatly to the awesome experience. My only regret is that Fort Edmonton Park will be undergoing renovations over the next two years, so we will not be able to stay at my beloved hotel Selkirk for at least that many years. The cost of the room is rather expensive but that does include the gate admission to the park. Unfortunately due to the damp, cool and windy weather we did not explore as much of the park as what we had hoped to do. This stay will however remain a fond memory of our summer of 2018.

One of Edmonton's best-kept secrets
One-of-a-kind hotel located within Fort Edmonton, the city's living history museum (1800's - 1920's). Recreation of actual hotel from city's 1920's past, but with essential modern comforts. Best-kept secret: room rate includes park admission. Park adjacent to hotel, explore the extensive and interactive attraction, dine in the hotel, then have the park to yourself after hours -- delightful. Wake up the next morning, have breakfast, then step back into the past. We hated to return to the 21st Century. Hotel's river valley location makes it a convenient point of departure for the city's many attractions (10 minute drive to West Edmonton Mall, for example). Rates were competitive.

Fabulous Stay
We had an very enjoyable stay at the Hotel Selkirk. The staff was phenomenal and the hotel was very clean. We were able to walk about the grounds in the evening and enjoy a more personal experience at the park. The amusement park brought back memories for me, it was so exciting to ride the ferris wheel and reflect on my childhood days. I would recommend spending a weekend in the park at Hotel Selkirk to all my friends and acquaintances.

Good choice if you are at a wedding in the Park
The hotel is basic but clean and functional. The room we had was very spacious and street-side which is the best side. When there's no wedding on, it is very quiet at night, but as this seems to serve a lot of wedding guests, be prepared to have a lot of noise - take earplugs. The breakfast service is extremely slow. Our party had to wait over an hour for everyone to be served their food. If not at a wedding, I would go elsewhere in Edmonton as there are better value hotels with better service. But it's a good choice if you are at a wedding there as it's the only hotel in walking distance.

1920's Vintage Hotel in Fort Edmonton Park
After some trouble actually finding the hotel, I arrived about 6 PM. Parking lot was, shall I say, "1920's, but it didn't bother me. Check-in was friendly and courteous. No issues. After check-in, I walked around the park a bit, but all buildings were closed by this time of day. I had a beer in the Mahogany Room. Now that's a bar! I then had dinner at Johnson's café in the Hotel - good food, good service, no issues. At this time of year there are few guest so I pretty much had the whole place to myself. That suited me fine, as I don't care for crowds. The room was very clean and comfortable. Washroom was a bit small but entirely adequate and spotless. No TV - but remember, it's 1920's. I took in an old time movie (Some Like It Hot) at the Capitol Theater next door to the Hotel. Theater is beautifully restored. Had a very quiet and restful sleep. There's no road noise at all, as the hotel is located in the river valley away from the hustle and bustle. There is no nearby shopping malls, and that's just great with me.

Amazing Romantic getaway
The hotel was absolutely charming. The bed was comfortable and the staff were so fantastic. After a wonderful dinner in the restaurant we had the entire Ft Edmonton park to walk around by ourselves. We will be making this an annual event!

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much, however, our meal at the Johnson Cafe, which is the hotel restaurant, was very disappointing. The service was so bad that it almost became a comedy of errors. The staff had very little knowledge of the menu items and they served me the WORST martini I have ever tasted...I actually couldn't even drink it! The food was acceptable but very overpriced. The breakfast that was included with the room was lacking in variety and quantity. On the positive side, it was really nice to have the after hours access to the park. We enjoyed some lovely & quiet evening walks.

Awesome place for our First Anniversary
We stayed at the Hotel Selkirk to celebrate our first anniversary. What we especially liked about this hotel is its location - right in Fort Edmonton. Admission was included in the price which was a great value. We thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring Fort Edmonton and the hotel was very quaint, clean and comfortable. We hope to make coming here for our anniversaries a tradition.

Quiet location in historic Fort Edmonton
I chose this hotel because I'm a history buff and I thought the quiet location away from freeways and shopping areas sounded perfect. There are no TVs in the rooms & wi fi is patchy, so be prepared. Only disappointment was that the continental breakfast ended at 10 am. The Johnson Cafe (inside the hotel) then started serving from its regular menu which looked to be more dinner-like with entrees like salmon & beef. I was able to have a sandwich & a piece of homemade pie at the Jasper House Cafe which more than up for the breakfast disappointment!

Everything about the hotel was excellent. I'm just trying to figure out what an extra $33.40 charge to my credit card is for, and trying to investigate the "price match" thing because my friends got the same stay for cheaper.

Classy 1920's
Didnt expect we would be staying in the historic fort edmonton park. It was like living life in the 20's back to the late 1800's. Everyone was in the period correct clothing and all were friendly and engaging. We even asked musicians walking down the street if they were putting on a show. They all stopped and played us a song. Was a magical weekend

nice hotel in a historical park
Prime location if what you're interested in is the Fort Edmonton Park. The hotel is located right in the park, it includes admission to the park and different events are going on either in the park or at the hotel. But it's far from downtown and hard to get around if you don't have a car. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff was very helpful.

Nice old historic hotel at Fort Edmonton Park.
We booked this hotel because we were attending a wedding there. The king size bed was comfortable however the room was small, but rooms were like that back in the 1900's. It does have an elevator but we used the stairs. Very narrow stairways. the hotel was very clean and tidy. Meals are served in the hotel and we had breakfast there but we had to wait an hour for it after the waitress took our order. Not sure what the problem was as there were only 9 people in the dining room. Over all we were pleased with the hotel and would stay there again.

Great Stay
Great stay. Easy check-in (we were happy to be able to get the room early, much appreciated!), good food in the Cafe and friendly service everywhere. Basic room with a really comfortable bed. Great location, easy to walk to anywhere in the park. Wish we had time to stay another night.

Authenticity is taken too far!
This was a very disappointing experience. Granted, I arrived in very wet conditions, but having to get out of my vehicle in pouring rain to reach a key pad to get access through a service gate entry, where there is no overhead cover, and wait for a response...... oh, and did I say that the keypad was on a post surrounded by a huge muddy puddle. Parking was located some distance from the entrance, in a gravel mud pit with a slippery wooden boardwalk/ramp leading up to the front entry door, which was stuck, and wouldn't open! "An asphalt parking area and a covered walkway would detract from the authenticity of the place", I was told. They have plans to redo the entry system. Not soon enough!! The least they could do is offer a horse drawn carriage to deliver guests and their luggage from the parking lot to the entrance! Otherwise, the room was pleasant and comfortable, but basic. The hotel is quite isolated, so if you don't like the menu at the one restaurant (the prices are quite steep ), it's quite a drive to find an alternative - nothing within walking distance. I guess I should be glad that I didn't have to collect rainwater to drink, and depend on a fireplace to get warm. Usually I am very accepting of different situations when travelling, but I think this hotel excelled in providing authenticity at the expense of basic comforts and courtesy to guests.

Great park hidden away in Edmonton! :)
The room was nice! It was kind of cool to be able to walk around the park after closing. Park admission was included in our stay. Friendly and helpful staff. We did not know anything in Edmonton. They were able to help us find our way. Wonderful restaurant, they did have a table of 30 come in just before we arrived. They had said there would be a bit of a wait, but it wasn't actually that long! Hotel is a 7 minute drive from the West Ed Mall. But you could spend a couple days in the park itself. So much to see and lots of information. The only thing was it seemed every time we tried calling the front desk to ask a question, there was no answer. One night coming back late we had to wait at the gate to be let in, and the front desk didn't answer for quite a while. Overall though we had a great stay, and will go back next time!

1st time staying - loved it!
What a unique experience!!! Would definitely recommend it to any one and all walks of life!!! A great taste of the past! The hotel suites are really a neat experience! No phones and television are a nice change to one evening entertainment that you make it! We toured around the grounds in the evening reading about the history of the park then the next day the tour went really fast. The theatre is a must go see and take in the short movie of the history of the park!

Great Period Respite!
I stayed one night with my two granddaughters. The room was quaint and well fitted for the period of the hotel. The bed was sooooooo comfy. Good value for money and having Fort Edmonton Park right out the door to explore the next morning was a convenient bonus! We loved our stay and will do so again!

Great room--service not so good
Great room! As you walk from the parking lot you are greeted with a kitchen garbage cart and then in the front entry a dust pan and wheel chair, then at the elevator and foyer stacked plastic tables and chairs and other miscellaneous storage items just to get you into the mood and enjoy the time and era...! Ran out of toilet paper so I had to come down to the desk and carry it up to my room. Came down for breakfast and not even a mouse was stirring...the manager ended up serving us as the server arrived over an hour late. No one at the desk could share any information about the wonderful Fort Edmonton Park! The good--we enjoyed the ambiance of the Park and our room. Get it together Hotel Selkirk--so much potential to be great is being wasted!

A GEM of a small hotel in a wonderful location
Have stayed at the Hotel Selkirk on three occasions now and never been disappointed. A unique property with lots of character, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet close to downtown. Pleasant and quiet atmosphere and comfortable rooms at a very reasonable price.
