There were no previous reviews about this property, but it looked okay from the pictures and the description; so I decided to book it for 3 nights. I did reach out to the owner regarding an error on my part as to how many of us would be staying there. He responded quickly and politely and corrected the booking.
When we arrived the check in went well, but the house felt a bit cool and I looked for the thermostat. Once I found it I soon realized that it was set at 21degrees C. It couldn’t be changed without a P.I.N. I messaged the host and asked if he could allow me to increase the heat to warm the place up. I assured him I would turn it down at night and would be responsible. I did not receive an answer AT ALL!
In the description and in the pics it states that there is a fireplace and I decided to turn on the fireplace. The fireplace doesn’t work. The pilot light was out and there was so much thick dust behind the grill, I gave up trying to figure out how to start it. (there were 2 switches on the side of the fireplace, one turned the fan on, but the fireplace wouldn’t start). In desperation I turned on the 4 burners on the gas top to warm up the house. Once it warmed up, I turned them off.
It was nice to have coffee, tea, sugar and other basics in the cupboards and the fridge. The hair dryer, Q tips and cotton pads in the bathroom were also a nice touch. The water in the bidet was freezing cold! Why install a bidet if the water will be that cold?
In one of the photos online it showed a laundry detergent and dryer sheets sitting on the washing machine. However, there wasn’t any laundry products there. I had to buy some as we did do one small load of our own laundry plus I washed some of the towels and the 2 hand towels provided (more hand towels would have been great).
I would like to suggest that 2 more curtains be placed over the living room window as the two curtains were too small and, even though there were sheers at the window there was not enough privacy in the evenings.
I found some type of plastic wrapping off a pillow or cushion under my bed (non carpeted bedroom) and I trod on a screw on the wooden floor. I would also suggest that real pillowcases be used on all the pillows. My pillows had shams on them with embroidery on them. I couldn’t sleep with it against my face. Surely it’s not that difficult to have pillowcases on both the beds? Someone should be employed to do snow removal as there was a lot of snow and ice
