"Great little hotel for an awesome price"
We loved the Palma Real. It was a little out of the way (about 13 miles from Tulum), but the price was very worth it. We had a rental car so it wasn't a big deal. It was hard to find in the dark initially because there are no street lights around, but once you get close, the hotel has a giant green sign that's easy to spot. The room was pretty good sized with tile floors and a comfy California King bed. It was cleaned and the sheets and towels were changed daily. The shower was ok - the water pressure wasn't great, but it was a clean hot shower after each day of doing tourist stuff. This is not a deluxe 5 star hotel - so don't stay here if that's what you want. Tulum has some of the best beaches in the world and the area tends to be more eco-friendly. Hostels are popular here. It is a place to go for the best beach experiences, food, drinks, swimming, snorkeling and awesome people. There are spas around if you want to be pampered. Just don't expect that at the Palma Real. It was exactly what we wanted, however, and we would stay there again. The pool looked nice, but we didn't use it. We stayed here in April and it was quiet and clean. There were some geckos around and it appeared that they were doing some remodeling to the building. All in all, I couldn't be happier with this hotel. This is Mexico - there are police checkpoints, bugs and mold. It's just a part of life. The negative reviews I have read all complain about these things so educate yourself before you go.

"New Apartments Near Town - Very Clean and Modern"
Good: This is a newer apartment complex near the center of town. Very clean. Bad: The wifi reception is very spotty. Ugly: None Location: At the town's outskirts, but only10 minutes by car to the town center (Tulum is a small town). It is about 25 minutes to the beach area by car or about 45 minutes by bike. Only 10 minutes to restaurants and shops by car. About 20 minutes by car to the nearest cenote. Hardly any traffic noise. Gated and staffed 24-hrs/day. Cleanliness: Very clean. Staff cleans the units on a daily basis. Comfort: I found the room to be fairly comfortable. Amenities: A very nice and clean heated pool. Apartment units have fridge, oven and coffee maker. No TV in the unit (loved it). bike rental on premise (loved it too). A/C in the bedroom but only ceiling fan in the living room (didn't bother me really). Units have balconies. Staff: Max, the owner was friendly and knowledgeable. Other staff were nice and respectful. Overall experience: Excellent.

"Simple, friendly, close to restaurants"
This hotel was our last stop on a three week tour around Mexico. When we arrived, they immediately greeted us, provided us with a map of Tulum, and got us settled into our room. The room was a decent size but the bed wasn't very comfortable. We asked if there was another room and they moved us to a room with a better bed and air conditioning. The new room was only slightly more expensive and well worth it, because Tulum is HOT in August. This hotel is very affordable, and it's across the street from a number of restaurants. The proprietors are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and are happy to lend you a snorkling mask if you want to visit the cenotes. Polly speaks fluent English and Spanish, and her husband speaks Italian and Spanish. They also have a cute, quiet & friendly chihuahua. This is not a fancy hotel, but it's perfect if you intend to be out exploring Tulum most of the time.

"A nice apartment complex near the edge of Tulum"
A 60-90 minute drive from CUN airport (depending on traffic), the place hard to find (neither the cab driver nor any locals knew the location by name, and the location is new enough that there are not street addresses). In the management's defense, they had sent us a nice diagram of where exactly the complex was located, but we underestimated how difficult it would be to find. We spent one night in our original room, but after discovering that the AC was not working, we were moved into another unit that had a working AC. Luckily, that unit was also a bit nicer, and we were very pleased with the relocation. We rented a very nice pair of bikes from the management for a very reasonable price, and due to them not being available on day 1, we were given the first few days free as well. Tulum's main drag was about 5 minutes away on bike, and the beach was approximately a 30 minute bike ride from our apartment (all on either quiet streets or the bike path). We would definitely recommend bikes, as the apartments are a little far for walking. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience, although honestly the apartment was a bit big for our needs. There was another group of 2-3 couples that was also staying there at the same time, and that seemed like the ideal use of the space: plenty of room in the apartments, and lots of room and facilities for group activities.

"A beautiful sanctuary in Tulum!"
My son and I were amazed when we pulled up to the gated entrance all in tile and entered a plaza with hanging planters and flowers, and architecture fitting a Mexican palace...we felt like royalty and were astounded that the nightly price is so reasonable. The staff is so friendly and accommodating and all the little extras like coffee 24 hours a day and towel animals to greet us on our return to our cleaned rooms...such luxury!!! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay in Tulum so wonderful!!!
