"It was a nice room and clean"
I love the staff very nice and helpful the room was clean and cozy. The only downside is we are stayin on the second floor wich I requested but the construction workers are staying in first floor so everytime we moved or walk they will knock our floor very hard.

"All in All not too bad"
The place was very clean and fairly quiet. I don't think I would stay there for a vacation with my wife and kids, but for a business trip it was more than adequate. The price was very reasonable for the accommodations provided. No coffee pot but the refrigerator and microwave were very convenient. Internet access was reliable and fairly fast for a motel.

"One of the best you can find around $100/day in SF"
A clean place with very friendly and attentive staff. 24 hour check-in and out. You will find few homeless guys hanging around the hotel. But they didnt make any trouble. Bathrooms and rest rooms (seperate) are also clean and well maintained. Room is little small with a comfortable and clean bed. Room size wont be a problem if you plan to spend day time out in the city and go there to sleep.

Decent hotel, clean and close to places that tourists want to go, but there's a lot of weird and homeless people in the surroundings.

Kitchen was great. Room was clean and had an attached shower/toilet. Nothing fancy, but a great price for SF in the summer.

"Great Location/Best Place for the Price"
When I first arrived I had no clue how to enter this Hostel. It was my first experience staying at a hostel. There was a call box on the door and you had to ring the bell and the Office unlocked the front door. Once I arrived the office gave me a key and required a $10 cash deposit just in case the key was lost. I was given a clean blanket, sheet, and pillow case. I had went upstairs to my room number and unlocked the door. There were three sets of bunk beds. So the room can hold 6 people. I saw an empty top bunk so I threw the sheet on and pillow case along with my stuff there was nobody in the room at the time. The room smelled and was a little dirty. But for what I paid in the price it was tolerable. I then went downstairs and roamed around and went to the lounge and kitchen downstairs. There was a couch, tables, and a tv. There were a few people hanging out downstairs. The plus about this place is there is a full size kitchen with a fridge and microwave. Your able to purchase and cook any type of food. The location was right be the civic center. I had gone out a wandered around San Francisco at the end of the night I came back to the Hostel and the room had three other occupants there. Throughout the next few days it was easier to stay because I adjusted and got to know the other people staying. If your able to be open minded and sacrifice a little privacy this place is the cheapest way to stay. Just expect the worst and everything would be ok.

Encore Express

"An excellent 'non-luxury' hotel."
Excellent location, close to muni and multiple cable car lines. Wonderful friendly staff. This is a combination hotel/hostel, and they really cater to the local indie music artists -- the ground floor front has several rehearsal studios, which you do hear (softly) if your room is in the front half of the building. Highly recommended if you're on budget and/or a musician.
