We found this hotel on the University of San Francisco's web site as one of their hotels they have an arrangement with, close to campus and we used as we moved our freshman into the dorm. Would definitely stay again. The rooms were great, and the neighborhood is fun with tons of places to eat.
Close to downtown SF, accessible to all the bus lines so you can go anywhere in the city or catch the BART or Cal Trans - we went to San Carlos to celebrate my Mother's 90th Birthday. I was born & raise in SF so know my way around but my Mom really knows the bus lines going to Cliff House, Haight-Ashbury, GGB, Palace of Fine Arts (100 yrs old this yr 1915), Ferry Bldg - we only took a taxi once, saved a fortune! Generous continental breakfast, thanks! Would have appreciated 2 wake-up calls we never got - s/d learn how to use my cell phone as an alarm.
This hotel is older, but not run-down. The location is perfect for walking around San Francisco (especially if you don't have a car-- parking is $40 per day). There are dozens of great, cheap eateries near by, as well as salons, bars, massage parlors and attractions. Across from a shelter, so expect some variety of peoples outside. Front desk didn't always answer the phone. Beautiful view.
Victorian experience in modern day San Francisco. Decorated throughout in Victorian antiques but with modern day amenities. Enjoy a complimentary sherry curled up in a comfortable chair next to a fire in period fireplace. Minutes walk away from the heart of the action but you can escape back to a quiet respite at the end of the day. Staff was very helpful and cheerful. Definitely not your usual mundane clone hotel experience. Only complaint was the mattress, It was hard and springy.
It is a nice hotel and location is also good with many restaurants nearby and bus stop short walk. Room price is reasonable keeping in view San Francisco prices. Parking is quite expensive but again, not surprising for San Francisco. Otherwise staff is good, room is decent and didn't have any major issues with the hotel.
I've stayed at this hotel a few times, I go back because the price for San Fransisco city area is pretty reasonable and includes free parking. the rooms have always been clean and comfortable. I have never had any issues. a couple blocks down on Polk street theres Starbuck's and Peet's coffee and a Walgreens among lots of other shops and restaurants all a short walk away.
At first I was resistant to stay in this hotel, because the neighborhood was a little scary. But, ultimately I decided to stay because the room was clean and the hotel was quiet. The people tried to explain the history of the neighborhood to me and they assisted my needs. I like this hotel. I would come back and would recommend it to my friends.
