Unique hotel steps away from Union Square. Exceptional and friendly staff that are willing to help out with recommendations and transportation needs. Free coffee and tea in the mornings and wine tastings in the afternoon. Clean rooms and nicely decorated.

Hotel Del Sol, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel

3100 Webster St, San Francisco - Map
"Fun hotel shines above others in the area"
Since our daughter lives in the area we've tried other hotels but will definitely return to Hotel del Sol. Comparably priced with the others, it's much nicer and also offers a continental breakfast and fresh-baked cookies in the afternoon. Our room and bathroom were spacious and clean, and hotel staff were very friendly. Like other options in the area, it's a funky old refurbished motel, but unlike others it has considerable charm.

Le Meridien San Francisco - San Francisco Hotels
Rating: 4.0 Stars

Le Meridien San Francisco

333 Battery St, San Francisco - Map
"Nice place, but lacks personality"
Le Meridien is a lovely hotel, but lacks any real personality or uniqueness. On arrival there was an incredibly loud protest at the front entrance (those wanting the hotel staff to unionize). They were very aggressive and loud, which started the visit on a tough note. Our room was lovely. No complaints there. The challenge is with the location - on one hand super close to Ferry Building/Embarcadero, and Union Square, but somewhat in a no-mans-land of the Financial District, so few restaurants, stores closed on weekend, dark blocks. Which leaves no one on the streets but homeless people which is a little unsettling for tourists.

Embassy Suites San Francisco Airport - Waterfront

150 Anza Blvd, Burlingame - Map
"airport convenient"
The free shuttle to and from the airport is fast and convenient. The driver was strict about making sure I was going to the waterfront embassy suites as it is apparently common that visitors to the other embassy suites in the area get on the wrong shuttle. Free breakfast had greasy bacon and dry cooled potatoes were disappointing, but otherwise good variety. Free drinks in the evening are all bottom shelf and bud lightish so skipped altogether. The staff were great and made a point of being polite and helpful. The bathroom shower/tub was odd- it was difficult to get the tub water to stop while the shower was going, but totally manageable. The room fridge and microwave are very handy. The room's set up is great- the kids slept on the pull out couch in one room while we got our own bed/room with a large window for natural light. I also really liked the inside landscaping- just lovely. The pool and hot tub were nice- the tub jets didn't massage which was a downer. They are the kind that throw hard bubbles and water up your back and neck but little else. The parking is $27- so add that in to the price if it applies.

"Always good."
Embassy Suites is always a good choice, with plenty of room to spread out. They have the best breakfast in the industry, too.

There are so many things to do in San Francisco, it’s difficult to know where to start.

So why not begin with a place where you can do a lot of things at once? We’re talking about Fisherman’s Wharf. Located on the upper east side of the city, Fisherman’s Wharf hosts a number of attractions, including shopping, dining, restaurants, a carousel, and the Aquarium of the Bay. Where else can your kids learn about the local sea life and enjoy some clam chowder in a sourdough bowl? You can stick with the animal theme and head 10 km across town to the San Francisco Zoo. Polar bears, lemurs, and wolverines, oh my! Your little ones will love the critters, and you’ll love the zoo’s beautiful layout.

Want more family fun in San Francisco? The San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, located on the northern end of the city, is full of antique sailing ships and exhibits to explore. Learn how to set square-rigged sails on the Balclutha, or go for a jaunt around the bay on the schooner Alma. After a long day of exploration and excitement in San Francisco, a family hotel is the perfect place to retreat for some R&R. If you’re visiting in the winter, we recommend booking a hotel near Union Square, so you can bring the kids to see the ever-changing Winter Walk.

A family vacation is meant to be cherished and enjoyed. Get your trip off on the right foot and book with; you’ll get our Best Price Guarantee on our selection of San Francisco hotels. That means more money in your wallet instead of spent on accommodation. Isn’t that worth another trip to Pier 39?
