"Beautiful and funky property. The shared spaces were very nicely appointed with a room full of records and artsy books. Loved the indoor and outdoor onsens here as well. The tatami mats and floor seats were a unique experience as well. The only small negative is that it is a little off the beaten path but even with that point & that it was raining, we very much enjoyed our stay here and would recommend."

"The staff here were so friendly and helpful. They really made you feel welcomed and helped you settle in. The property is beautiful, a classic traditional Japanese style ryokan and they provide slippers and robes as well. It was a very enjoyable stay for us. Even given the 15-20minute walk from the train station, you’re surrounded by beautiful nature and architecture, so it doesn’t feel very far at all. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We arrived early to check in our bags. They also helped us with our breakfast bentos which we couldn't find a place to heat up. We were extremely thankful for this as we arrived very hungry! We went out for a walk around the area and took the bus to lake ashinoko, hakone shrine and a boat ride. Afterwards, we came back after the standard check in time to claim our bags to move to the room, but our bags were already in our room for us! The private onsen...

My wife and I was extremely happy with my stay at Hakone Airu. It was our first time in that part of the town and hotel. First off, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect; Away from busy town and off to a quieter part of the town. It was also very convenient as the train station is located only 10 minutes by walk. Easy to get to once you find the right bus from the train station (Odawara or Hakone-Yumoto). Staff will greet you just after you cross the bridge and start the check in process. We went during cherry blossom season so there was a seasonal welcome drink we tried. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and the property itself is beautiful. Such a unique idea with the late check in and late check out. It made it an easy transition from arriving mid afternoon from Kyoto and transitioning to our ryokan after the afternoon check out. Drinks were well made and the public bath was so welcome at the end of a long day exploring the Hakone area. The complementary snacks and drinks in the room was also a nice touch. The service really impressed us. From the moment they picked us up from the station to when they drove us back at the end of the stay, I felt really pampered. I would definitely recommend to call them to pick you up at the miyanoshita station if you're not driving. From the ride I can tell it's not easily walkable. We only stayed for one night in a room with a private bath. Overall I don't think we needed to pay extra for the private bath. It only fits one person and the shower is also outside!...
