THE COTTAGE HAS BEEN LOVINGLY RESTORED. IT IS A TWO STORY LEVEL HOUSE WHICH SLEEPS 6 PEOPLE IN THREE BEDROOMS. IT IS CENTRALLY HEATED USING BIOMASS WOOD PELLETS. IT HAS ORIGINAL OAK BEAMS COUNTRY COTTAGE FURNISHINGS AND VELUX WINDOWS WITH BLACKOUT BLINDS. THE MASTER BEDROOM HAS A LARGE DOUBLE BED, A BUILT IN WARDROBE AND A CHEST OF DRAWERS, AND TELEVISION. THE SECOND BEDROOM HAS A COTTAGE STYLE DOUBLE IRON BED STEAD A SMALL CHEST OF DRAWERS AND A WARDROBE. THE THIRD BEDROOM HAS A DOUBLE BED WITH CHEST OF DRAWERS AND WARDROBE. THE COTTAGE HAS BEEN RESTORED TO A HIGH SPECIFICATION WITH ORIGINAL FEATURES PRESERVED. THE SMALL SHOWER ROOM AND TOILET UPSTAIRS HAS A COSY QUAINT FEEL. PORCELAINE SINK AND TOILET .
DOWNSTAIRS, THERE IS ANOTHER QUAINT BATHROOM WITH TOILET, SHOWER , BATH AND FULLY EQUIPPED WITH EXTRACTOR FANS A LOVELY BATHROOM CABINET WITH SOCKET FOR SHAVER ETC.
THE KITCHEN IS FITTED WITH FRENCH GREY CABINETS , , FRENCH DOORS TO ENABLE GUESTS TO MOVE OUT ONTO A SMALL PATIO AREA TO EAT OUTSIDE IF DESIRED. THERE IS A STRPPED PINE KITCHEN TABLE WITH OLD RESTORED KITCHEN CHAIRS. IT IS FULLY EQUIPPED WITH DISH WASHER,ELECTRIC COOKER/HOB WITH EXTRACTOR FAN, WASHING MACHINE , AND FRIDGE FREEZER. LIGHTING IS ALL LED.
THE LIVING ROOM IS OF MODERATE SIZE, WITH BEAMS, FRENCH DOORS TO THE GARDEN AND PATIO AREA, A FIREPLACE WITH AN ELECTRIC FIRE OF WOODBURNER STYLE, A THREE SEATER SETTEE WITH LOOSE COVERS FOR CLEANLINESS AND TWO LEATHER CHAIRS. THERE IS A PIANO FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PIANO PLAYING ABILITY OR FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO TRY. THE ROOM IS AGAIN OF CUMBRIAN COTTAGE STYLE AND ATMOSPHERE. Un excellent séjour ! A wonderful stay !
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Lily's cottage, une superbe maison décorée avec goût et nous avons apprécié son confort. Accueillis par ses charmants propriétaires, Eileen et Richard, qui habitent à deux pas et se montrent d'une grande disponibilité pour des conseils (merci pour la balade à Buttermere!) ou une simple conversation. Sur la table à notre arrivée, un panier garni de thé, de café, de pain et une bouteille de vin pour se réconforter après une longue route! Dans le frigo, du lait, des oeufs et des légumes fraîchement cueillis dans le jardin. Autant le dire tout de suite, le cottage est d'une propreté impeccable et très bien équipé ! La région est magnifique : au Sud, la région des lacs et ses paysages à la lumière qui a enchanté les poètes romantiques, au Nord, l'Ecosse, ses paysages et ses traditions. Edimbourgh est à 1h30 d'une route facile. Nous recommandons vivement un séjour à Lily's cottage et y reviendrons avec plaisir quand nos projets nous guiderons à nouveau vers le nord de l'Angleterre. We spent a wondeful stay in Lily's cottage, a splendid house, décorated with much taste, and we appreciated its confort and the warmth it conveys. Welcomes by its lovely landlords, Eileen and Richard, who live at a stone's throw, and proved to be very helpful for advice or simply for a nice talk. On our arrival, we found a basket with bread, tea, coffee and a bottle of wine to comfort us after a long drive :-) Cherry on the pie, Eileen brought us vegetables freshly collected from the house garden! Let's say it honestly : the cottage is particularly clean and very well equipped. The surroundings are really beautiful : to the South, the Lake District and their light that has inspired the most famous romantic poets and to the North, Scotland, its landscapes and its traditions. Edimburgh is reached after a 1.30 hour-drive on an easy road. We warmly recommend staying at Lily's cottage and shall return with pleasure when our plans guide us to the North of England.

Beautiful Cottage with Wonderful Host
The cottage is beautiful, immaculately clean, very comfortable, well equipped, and spacious with 3 bedrooms snd two bathrooms. I would describe it as a little gem with oodles of character. Eileen and Richard are wonderful hosts. Such lovely people and gave great tips about where to go and where best to park. Got to mention Humphrey, Maple and Syrup - the adorable ducks! The cottage is in a great location to see Cumbria, the Lake District, Northumberland, and Dumfries & Galloway. Absolutely loved our stay here and wished we could have stayed longer. We are planning on booking another stay!

Delightfully cosy & comfortable
We regularly stay in holiday properties; most are adequate to good and they vary quite a lot in terms of being well equipped and the quality and taste of decor and furnishings. Eileen & Richard’s house is unquestionably one of the nicest we’ve ever stayed at. The entire house is tastefully and thoughtfully furnished, the kitchen has everything you could need and more; bedrooms comfortable and there are many small, but well considered little touches throughout the house that make it feel so welcoming and friendly. Eileen & Richard are lovely hosts; so friendly and knowledgeable about places to visit in the vicinity. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend in the highest possible terms.

Our HOSTS at Lily Cottage
A bit hard to find but well worth it when we got there. Our hosts could not do enough to please us. They were absolutely brilliant. Also their knowledge and recommendations of the area were spot on.The cottage itself was immaculate and all the appliances and furnishings were 1st class. And as an aside Josephine and the ducks were a delight.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lily Cottage. Well equipped, nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. The hosts were perfection and we discovered several gems (salvage yard/plant nursery/private swimming pool!) that we'd otherwise have probably overlooked. We'd love to return!

Excellent stay
We loved staying at the cottage. It was quiet with a beautiful view in the distance. The cottage was spacious with 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. The kids enjoyed watching the ducks and sitting on the raised platform overlooking the duck pond. Eileen was a great and kind host. Super friendly and took great care of us. I would recommend staying here if you want a quiet retreat near Carlisle. It was a good 45-50 min drive to Keswick, but we like driving and had no regrets on location. We are so glad we stayed here!

Beautiful cottage, spectacular attention to detail which made our stay extra special. Eileen and Richard perfect hosts and made us very welcome. Loved the four ducks and the wee garden at back and the ongoing transformation of their further outdoor space. Thanks for use of balcony to enjoy the sunset over Solway Firth. The host had provided excellent basics like bread and milk as well as delicious extras. The facilities were efficient like the clothes washing facilities and the bathrooms. The decor was delightful although the street frontage was not easy to recognise or welcoming.

The place was wonderful, exceeded all expectations. Spotless and full of light. The hosts were so welcoming! We stayed for four days but could have stayed much longer. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, the children enjoyed the games and piano. We didn’t have a car for our stay there, and generally speaking you would need a car to enjoy the area properly, but we were able to get groceries delivered and so forth. Highly recommend.

Super stay in Lily Cottage
We had an excellent stay in Eileen and Richard's beautiful spacious yet cosy cottage. They are the most amazing hosts! So friendly, helpful and generous. Lovely welcome package, super clean, well kitted out, beautifully decorated cottage with very comfy beds, lots of storage space and amazing star gazing from the roof windows. Our children loved seeing the ducks. The photos don't do this cottage justice. We will definitely be coming back!

The best family holiday with teenagers in Cumbria.
We have recently returned from a week at Eileen & Richard’s holiday cottage in Kirkbampton. We had the best holiday! They are the most welcoming couple, the accommodation was perfect & nothing was too much trouble. Within a week we felt like we had made new friends. Highlights of our busy holiday were a train trip to Settle, a day in Durham, a train trip to Edinburgh, a day at Buttermere Lake and a day in Dumfries & the beautiful Rockcliffe. A short trip to the Solway for the spectacular sunset is a must. Carlisle is very handy for trains & shopping. We were blessed with beautiful weather and it was so lovely to have our great little cottage to return home to each day. Really hope we will be staying with Eileen and Richard again.

Excellent cottage and great hosts
The property was even better than pictures, lovely converted barn with 3 double bedrooms - plenty of space for a family of 4 and 2 grandparents! The hosts did everything they could to make us welcome and even introduced us to their ducks! We loved sitting on the bench in the sun and really enjoyed watching the jubilee after taking part in the village festivities! Couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. If we venture up to Carlisle again we won’t hesitate to come back! Thanks for everything

Lovely cottage and amazing host
This perfect cottage is far enough away from the dramas of life but so easy to get out and about for days out. We had a day in Silloth hunting Fairy's one day to jumping on a train to Edinburgh to see the wonderful castle. The host went above and beyond and had decorated for Easter. We would all highly recommend staying here.
