It's an escape for days spent riding bikes, walking along the shore, and enjoying West Seattle's excellent restaurants and shops, with all the wonders of childhood awaiting you back at home. This single-story bungalow sits one block south of Alki Beach Park, in one of the most sought-after areas of Seattle. Go kayaking, put in your paddleboard, take your kids to the Alki Playground and Whale Tail Park only two blocks east, visit the arcade one block north, and catch incredible sunsets on the sandy shore. You'll also be barely over two miles (an eight-minute drive) from the water taxi to downtown Seattle, easily reached via shuttle along Alki Beach. True to its name, the Storybook House has been hand-painted by a local artist to showcase a different children's book in each room. It's utterly charming, from the 'Goodnight Moon' living room to 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' eating its way through the kitchen. When you're not outside on the sun-splashed deck, there's wonderful space indoors for reading books or watching movies by the fireplace and playing games at the kitchen table. Whether you're making up your own world with 'Harold and the Purple Crayon' or joining Max for a wild rumpus in 'Where the Wild Things Are,' the bedroom and bunk room promise the best of dreams. 'The Little Prince' bathroom is darling in its own right, complete with a clawfoot bathtub. A folding crib, a high chair, many other amenities for small children like a sound machine, and a private washer/dryer are provided as well. Tiny but oh so much fun for the little ones! Our 4 year old grandson didn't want to leave. Be aware street parking was not closely available. We showed up an hour after check in, and the maintenance guy was there. We didn’t know he’d be there or what he was working on, but he was friendly and only stayed another 20 minutes. Still, a heads up would have been great. After he left, we realized the toilet was (still?) clogged. We unclogged it, and it was fine the rest of our stay. I agree with what a couple other people have said. The place needs a good clean. I’m probably the least likely to say something like this, I’m okay if a place isn’t perfect and didn’t expect perfection at all with an older bungalow. We had an ant problem upon arrival as well, we notified vacasa and they did offer to send someone out. Seeing as how we were there limited time and had only had the place to ourselves since 5:40pm and didnt want someone to spray the kitchen with raid or something similar, we just cleaned them up ourselves and made sure to keep our garbage outside. The part that really frustrated me was when we asked where the assigned parking was (the ad said “parking for one vehicle only”) we were told that the assigned parking was street parking. This isn’t just highly misleading (you could park as many vehicles as you want to, it’s public street parking), it’s really just plain old false advertising. It’s not the full reason we rented this place, but being this close to the beach with parking is a huge selling point. ##### Fallon P. It is walkable to the beach which was so fun for our landlocked kiddos. Lots of restaurants down by the water- we enjoyed Chupacabra for tacos. We did have a couple worries with our toddler- some unsecured furniture was a bit sketchy with her wanting to pull on things. There is no dishwasher, just an FYI. But the closet off the "master" was big enough for a pack-n-play! And they provide a mini crib with mattress/sheets which was nice. There is also a high chair. We were on a long road trip and did multiple loads of laundry during our stay with no issue. Overall, the kids (and grown-ups) loved the creativity and enjoyed our stay! ##### Mandy E. Although our kids are a little older (18 & 15) they loved the story book theme, they liked remembering reading all the old stories and talking about them. The town is beautiful and everything is within walking distance. We rented a 4 person bike and road up and down the bay. The views from the beach were breathtaking. While walking one evening we even saw a family of Orcas in the bay. We appreciate the owners' effort in remodeling the house and their attention to detail in creating a literary-themed experience—we love it!Another positive aspect is the location; it's very close to the beach, great restaurants, and the water taxi that takes you to downtown Seattle.However, we want to inform future renters that this is an old house, and there is a noticeable smell. The manager explained that it’s natural due to the house’s age. It was difficult for us on the first day, but we eventually got used to it. ##### Maria C. We found dishwasher soap, no dishwasher. Oven door was very low, as if broken . Dishes were slightly unwashed, previous food stains . Needed potholders and trash bags . We were so excited as the theme is great for kids! It started with the lack of parking when we first got there - the listing said 1 designated parking spot, but when we got to the house - there was no spot. I called Vacasa and they said it’s not designated - it’s first come first serve street parking (that was mentioned for the first time in the email you receive the day before - past the cancellation window - I had not gotten the email the day before as we were traveling and got everything else In text message) after many calls and “chat” messaging I was told someone from the local team would call me. No one ever did. I would note when we got back to the house from dinner (we had 3 hungry children with us when we got there), there was the spot that was “designated” available. We never had another problem parking in the “designated” street parking. But never heard from Vacasa again. We also had a plumbing issue with the one toilet - never heard from them either. We just dealt with it. Beware there are 2 chairs at the kitchen table - if you are planning to eat at the same time bring your own. Luckily they did leave 2 tower fans - but it did not appear the windows in the front room open. There was only 1 screen on 1 window - so if you don’t mind bugs or spiders - feel free to open the rest. It really is a cutely painted house in a great location, but there are other options that would be better. ##### Melissa K.
