"City centre gem"
Within 7-10 minutes walk of the central rail station/bus stop lies this absolute gem of an hotel. It even smelt beautiful from the outside (and every time we came back to it?). Reception staff were very friendly and helpful and directed us to the central market area..again just a few minutes away, and which had enough food outlets to feed you for the week. The room was beautifuly fitted out - apparently not long since a 2 year refit -and overlooked a fairly main road to the front. Good double-glazing and efficent air-con had us sleeping through the whole of rush hour! The internal rooms overlooked a lovely garden area full of tables, chairs and nicely decked out lounger zones..with a gorgeous bar in the middle, all lit up at night. The high walls and lemon trees surrounding you cut out all sense of you being in a city centre. We had a cooling dip in the spa pool, which opened up into the garden area, olives dropping off the trees into the pool every few minutes! My partner took advantage of the health spa with a 1hr rejuvenating facial treatment with really good products.. I was just happy that we had a really good choice at breakfast..though I am always puzzled as to why you'd want cake at that time of the morning? Good coffee on tap, friendly approachable staff and a feeling of relaxation (was it that beautiful scent that kept them so chilled?), especially eating al fresco at the coolest part of the day. 5 days was not enough!

Mercure Firenze Centro - New Opening

Via Nazionale 21/23 R, Florence - Map
"New, modern hotel in a very accessible location."
Stayed for 4 nights. New hotel, modern and clean. A very good value. Very quiet rooms. Hotel is a very short, very easy walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station, even with luggage in tow. It is a nice 10 minute stroll from the Mercure to the Duomo. A few minutes further to either the Uffizi or the Accadamia. Never needed a taxi. The Firenze card was very helpful in both: a) avoiding the museum lines and b) being able to show up when you want versus a specific time. They're available for sale at the Basillica di Santa Maria Novella, about a 3 minute walk from the hotel. Outlet shopping advice: (We got this great nugget of advice from the Mercure staff: Don't take a dedicated tour, there is a direct bus to 'The Mall' from the bus station on the other side of the train station. Not only will this save you a couple of dollars; it allows you to spend as much or as little time as you like. Also, there IS a Prada outlet at 'The Mall', no need to make a second stop somewhere else) I wish I'd found the food market earlier - about 3 blocks back from the hotel, several attractive dining options. The street that it fronts (Via dell Ariento) is full of little local leather stalls. Good souvenir hunting. Did not try the Mercure's restaurant or bar.

UNA Hotel Vittoria

"Great hotel but not so great location"
UNA Vittoria was a great hotel with amazing rooms, clean, spacious bathrooms. Only down point was the location. It was quite a distance away from the city centre and a 15-25 min brisk walk depending on the weather, we struggled with this as it was very hot weather in Florence at the time. Only one bus into the city which came regulary but not often enough. Pity as the hotel itself really was very nice and comfortable, just a bit too far away from eveyrthing if you don't have your own car/transport. The hotel apparently had bicycles for hire but they were booked out during our whole stay which didn't help.

"Close to being in centre without the hustle bustle"
Great location 10 minutes from Duomo. Lots of cafes nearby. Breakfast is basic but not sure why the complaints it's substantial enough. Beds are super comfy and they have black out blinds. Bonus. Only complaint no duvets only sheets and blankets. But we managed for 5 days.

Starhotels Michelangelo

Viale Fratelli Rosselli, 2, Florence - Map
It has a well trained and courteous staff, very helpful , the rooms are modern, clean and the mattress up to date, not decades old. The rooms spatial distribution is about right for a european standard, the breakfast included is better than other places, good coffee. Bottom line: very pleasant stay.

"Nice hotel close to everything"
Good hotel. Front desk staff was nice but didn't have a true concierge so you always felt like you were asking them to do something that was not their job.
