Great apartment. Big, with comfy beds, good linens, well supplied kitchen, lots of light & awesome cool (not swimming) pool. Juan was super nice to deal with. Area is incredibly noisy and there were issues with an alarm going off in hallway and one balcony door that would not lock.

The apartment is huge and super nice! It could use a good floor and walls cleaning, but the bathrooms and bedrooms were clean. The bedrooms were super comfortable. Nice sheets and pillows! The neighborhood is very interesting. Old town with derelict buildings around, with trees growing inside them, mixed in with modern hotels, restaurants and buildings. Great eating! You are staying in amongst the locals and there is a marked divide of very poor locals and wealthy tourists. I had mixed feelings about this, as there were signs around showing opposition to gentrification. Hopefully putting money into the economy helps. There are police stationed on the corner and this provides a sense of security. Without the police there, it would not feel super safe. We are a family of three and always felt safe and free to wander around, even at night, but mostly because there are a tonne of tourist police everywhere. It is loud! The locals are very vocal. Garbage trucks rumble by and party crowds are out on the weekend. So, don’t expect a sound proof and quiet stay. The roof top pool is more of a splash pool. It is tiny and is waist deep. Still, nice spot to sit and read. Negative: communication was very poor. It felt like it was just super disorganized. No one sent us the check in codes. No one answered messages on VRBO, ever. Email response came days late. No one answers the phone. I had to call VRBO who put me in touch with someone (who had a Peru phone number). This worked.

I don't recommend

We stayed one night at the property; then we left and went to a hotel in another area. Juan communicated pretty quickly as we raised issues about the place, but there were several problems that a property manager can not resolve.-the property wasn't very clean - my husband's feet were quite dirty after showering and walking barefoot around the apartment.-the rug in the living room was simply filthy. It hadn't been vacuumed and was terribly stained.-several doors to the long balcony (there are 5) could not be secured, and the ones that did lock could easily be pried open.-this part of Casco Viejo is in transition, and there are some horrible properties across the street. Some were abandoned, some were falling down. It didn't feel safe at all, and we were uncomfortable being there. There are 4-5 heavily armed police officers on the corner at all times. That was concerning.-ALL night long, there was screaming & yelling in the stairwell, dogs barking in the street, and lots of street & city noise. We were awoken often. -early in the morning, a fire system alarm started beeping pretty loudly.The apartment is very spacious, and the furniture and beds are comfortable enough for a rental. The bathrooms are large. The apartment is bright, since it has the 5 French doors to the balcony. The air conditioners worked well.But the negatives far outweighed any positives. We would not recommend it - maybe in 10-15 years when more neighborhood improvements happen, but not now.

We did not get access information. We ended up having to figure out how to contact them in order to get access. This was well after check-in time.Then they needed some random verification. This happened at another property we rented through Wynwood. They need a better system so you're not standing at the door waiting to get information on how to get into the place. Very frustrating.

Beware and think twice before booking!

Owner’s lies almost ruined our vacation. Seriously! Two days before our trip, I still hadn’t received check-in information (despite the site saying they send it three days prior). I messaged the owner who told me they would provide it on the day of check-in. Trusting them, I waited patiently, but still hadn’t received anything when I got to the airport. Less than two hours before my flight left, the owners told me they couldn’t give me the information since they hadn’t received payment. Two problems (1) the payment had already hit my credit card so the issue was likely on their end, (2) instead of lying to me when I first reached out, they should have immediately told me the issue so I could have resolved it before I was about to board! I spent the next two hours at the airport thinking we would be arriving late at night with nowhere to stay and frantically trying to contact them - the link they sent didn’t work, the WhatsApp number repeatedly went to voicemail, and they ignored my messages for over an hour! Luckily my plane was delayed. As my plane was taxiing, I gave up trying to work through them, contacted VRBO. While I was in the air, my husband called only to find out THERE WAS NO ISSUE. (Could it be that in the hour when they never responded to me, they resolved their own mistake??) On a positive note, the location was good and the unit was nice. We enjoyed our stay despite the upfront stress the owners caused.
