Wonderful and located in a great neighborhood

You can't ask for a better hotel, location and staff. It might be pricey, but you're paying for an amazing experience and a staff who goes out of their way to make you happy!

Hotel is decent, central to walking to white house

Posted 18-Oct-2016
Hotel was just in a good location, that was really the reason for staying there. We were walking distance from the White House, city center, DuPont circle, and a few other historical sites. The hotel was fairly clean, as well as the room. The shower however kept flooding up the bathroom floor which was pretty annoying and disgusting. I stayed for 4 days and on the 3rd day of complaining, it still wasn't fixed, but they left extra towels. The handheld part of the phone did not work and the remote control for the TV didn't work, they brought a new one once we called. The room service isn't that great, the food could be better, also, it's not 24 hr room service like u think. After 11pm u are only allowed to choose from a very small menu with less than 10 items and they are mostly cold cuts and cheese plates. We tried the in room massage and it was not a nice experience. The massage therapists were not the best and it was very tight in the room having a massage table in there. Definitely save the massages for inside a spa, which they do not have.

Disappointment at a luxury hotel

Posted 5-Oct-2016
Pros: The décor throughout the hotel is stunning! Also, the staff was extremely courteous.
Cons: A firm bed mattress, a body pillow the length of the bed with extra cost included in room rate, and a height- adjustable chair at the wide table.
Location: Excellent for any destination within DC.
I made a reservation at this hotel based on an excellent experience at the Sofitel in Paris. At the DC hotel the food was excellent but I had to call room service 3 times (the last call at midnight) to have the heavy dinner tray removed. While I requested a firm mattress the mattress in my room was "lumpy." It needs to be replaced. I was able to get to sleep only by sitting upright on pillows on top of the lumpy mattress. The desk chair is attractive but low for a short person. I had to use a pillow in that chair to sit high enough to eat the room service dinner. Also, a printed TV channel list with local news channels indicated was not found in the printed hotel services.

Excellent service. Staff eager to assist. And rooms very nice. Highly recommended. Great for couples or business stays, but not recommended for kids.

Pricey but convenient

Posted 2-Oct-2016
Pros: Most importantly, the room was quiet. After a long day out, I want a quiet night. The hotel employees were polite and responsive.
Cons: Everyone complained about parking expenses. We just used Uber.
Location: The National Mall is about 3 blocks away.
Close to the White House with lots of restaurants within walking distance. We were there for a wedding and the staff was cordial and helpful. The cafe was very nice and served excellent French press coffee.

For what I paid I'll never stay at another Sofitel

Posted 23-Sep-2016
Pros: Nice lication
Cons: Treat your customers like they are paying big money.
My wife and I over the past 7 years have stayed at Sofitel in Philly and DC. When I tried to cancel my second night due to the fact that my room was not ready at check in time I was informed they were overbooked. Service was awful the staff was burned out and I felt robbed. They have lousey business ethics!

Fantastic hotel - terrible staff.

Posted 19-Sep-2016
The staff in this hotel ranged from aggressively rude to cloyingly sychophantic. One waitress, Lulu, was an exemplar of all that is wrong about this hotel. The breakfast staff were also extremely curt and offhand. It would be hard to imagine how they could have been any less friendly or welcoming without being downright offensive. The door staff were unfriendly to the point of being intimidating. What a shame because the fabric and facilities of the hotel are superb.
