Muskoka in the Rideau Lakes - Luxury Retreat

Waterfront vacation home with kitchen and balcony
For those discerning guests who feel that quality and cleanliness are essential, this is the lake home for you! This home has been extensively renovated with quality and style in mind. The home is set on a beautiful, private and exclusive freshwater lake. Every room has water views. The property boasts 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms (one of the bedrooms is an adjacent, well-appointed sleeping cabin with queen-size bed just steps from the main cottage), a gourmet kitchen, and plenty of indoor and outdoor space to relax and enjoy the panoramic lake views. Also, we just bought a brand new Arctic Spa/Hot tub! This impressive cottage was built for a U.S. Senator in classic arts and crafts style in 1929. The current owners have gone to great lengths to preserve the warmth, rustic charm and elegance of the original structure, while updating it it with every comfort and convenience. This is the quintessential Canadian cottage experience. The main cottage structure is designed around a magnificent cathedral-ceiling great room with a floor to ceiling stone fireplace. Because it is located on a point, the cottage receives direct sunlight all day long, perfect for both relaxing with a coffee in the morning and sunbathing by the lake in the afternoon. And there are lake views from every window in the cottage. The open concept kitchen has a large 14 foot central island topped with Douglas fir countertop and Bosch induction cooktop, an additional new gas range, sub-zero fridge and ice maker, a Bosch convection microwave and central vacuum. The kitchen counters feature soapstone tops, a large farmhouse sink and Bosch dishwasher. Laundry facilities are by Miele. Both the septic system and 200 foot deep well are new and state-of-the-art. We also recently installed an attractive new wood stove to add to the general coziness! There is a full bathroom and two bedrooms located on the lower floor (one with a queen and one with a double bed) and a master suite with king-sized bed and ensuite bathroom with double vanity located upstairs in the large turret. The fourth queen-sized bed is in a comfortable, private cabin affectionately known as "the guest cabin" (50ft from main house). There are two docks for relaxing at, one on the east side and one on the west, so you can always catch the sun! Both docks can hold many people. There is plenty of seating on each dock. The water around the docks is clean, deep and free of weeds. We also recently installed a new swim platform about 50 feet from the west dock. Kids love the privacy this separate area provides - and so do adults! The lake features great swimming in clear spring-fed water and very limited motorboat traffic. It is particularly good for canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding. The cottage is located on a spectacular, private point of land jutting into the central part of one of Eastern Canada's most pristine lakes, There are almost no cottages in sight, the entire view to the west being taken up by Frontenac Provincial Park and a number of Crown-owned islands. Devil Lake is one of the best kept secrets in the Rideau Lakes area and rivals the Muskoka Lakes on all counts. The lake has been home to cottagers from some of Canada's and America's wealthiest families. The lake is large, deep, clean and private. From Frontenac Park, to Buttermilk Falls, Crown-owned islands, our favourite jumping rocks, snorkeling, canoeing and kayaking, lookouts and hiking trails, this lake is sure to please any discerning cottage enthusiast. Devil Lake is about 9 miles long by 4 miles wide, providing guests with a large area to explore. The lake is also known for its great fishing. Fish species include lake trout, large and smallmouth bass, pike, perch and crappy. There is a free government boat launch just 5 minutes away from the cottage. We are located 30 minutes from Kingston, 1.5 hours from Ottawa and 3 hours from Toronto and Montreal. Key features: - Fully stocked gourmet kitchen with 14 foot island and induction cooktop - Great Room with floor to ceiling fireplace and lots of seating - Large dining table seating 12 with views in all directions - Modern, upscale bathrooms Entertainment and activities - High quality light-weight kevlar Prospector canoe, various paddles and lifejackets - Fishing rods - Sound system with IPOD/iPhone jack and outdoor speakers - Inner tubes, noodles and inflatable dinghy - 2 kayaks - Flat screen TVs in great room and guest cabin - Apple TV, Free High-Speed WiFi, Netflix, XBox 360,Wii with games - Fire pit and firewood for campfires - Corn hole boards - Board games Other amenities - New stainless steel Weber BBQ with spare propane tank - Spices, blender, kettle, coffee maker, etc. - Quality linens and beds - Organic bath amenities Rentals available nearby (subject to availability): - New 21 foot Princecraft pontoon boat - Small fishing boats and motors This property lies directly on the James Auld Waterway, a 2000 year old native canoe route linking Frontenac and Charleston Lake Provincial Parks. It is also in the heart of the Frontenac Arch World Biosphere Reserve, the ancient granite bridge connecting the Canadian Shield to the Thousand Islands and Adirondack Mountains and recognized by UNESCO in 2002 for its incredibly rich natural environment and history. Because of its location within the Arch, Devil Lake's granite bluffs and stands of white and red pines give it an "up-north" feeling that belies its southerly location. It's exactly the kind of landscape sought after by Canada's famous Group of Seven painters in the 1920s. Devil Lake also immediately adjoins UNESCO's Rideau Canal World Heritage Site. The Rideau Canal consists of a series of beautiful lakes and rivers connected by canals stretching from Kingston, at the foot of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada's capital. It is is arguably the most scenic and historic waterway in North America.
Guest accommodations at this vacation home offer fireplaces and DVD players. Rooms open to balconies. Accommodations offer separate living rooms. Kitchens offer refrigerators, stovetops, microwaves, and separate dining areas.

5/5 Excellent

We had a wonderful stay during one of the hottest days June has offered! The point offers both east and west exposures. Sunrise and Sunsets are equally phenomenal! The kids LOVED fishing off of the dock, learning how to kayak and playing games in the sunroom in the evenings. This gem has everything that you could wish for! We had a great stay and hope to visit again soon!

Fantastic vacation
Shared this space with two other couples and it is absolutely stunning! Water is perfect off the dock - deep for jumping off, perfect temperature in late august. The lake itself is gorgeous. We rented a pontoon boat from the nearby marina and were able to explore - fishing was also great! The house itself is beautiful. Perfect balance of luxury and cottage vibe. It's clear the owners really love and take care of it. Donna and Bill were conscientious hosts who checked in and cared about our stay. Overall definitely a 5 star rental and experience - thanks Donna and Bill!

A Piece Of Heaven!
We had a wonderful time at Devil Lake and this home is absolutely beautiful. The lake is so clean and warm, and the surrounding forests are magnificent. The sound of loons. The fresh air. The glorious sunsets. This property is wonderful. The beds are so comfy. The kitchen so spacious and modern. Fabulous veranda and swim dock. Our favourite vacation destination in the world! The only cottage!
I have been to different vacation places, but this one is entirely different and unique. A lot of amazing features about this cottage that my family, kids, and friends enjoy during our stay. The location is great with excellent privacy. It contains four bedrooms one of them is outside the main house by few steps if you want to remain in a quite place away from children but it difficult to go in/out during night because of outside mosquitos. The cottage is very clean and well-maintained and beautifully decorated! It is a piece of art. We met the owners Donna and Bill on arrival, and they welcome us and take us for a tour of the cottage facilities. Definitely, I will think of this cottage for next time, and I am highly recommending it to my friends and relatives. A lot of activities can be enjoyed here: I enjoyed the view in the and the location, BBQ, indoor spacious sitting and dining area, outdoor patio, deck, fishing with the kids. Two Kayaks, Canoe are available in the cottage properties, and you can rent more from the nearby boating area.

5/5 Excellent

What a wonderful property and amazing location! With all of it's high end finishes and amenities, this cottage is more like a luxury lake house, but it still has tons of charming details you want in a cottage. The house is beautifully decorated, very spacious, has a fully stocked gourmet kitchen, and has lake views on all sides (including amazing sunsets from the kitchen and dinning room)! The lake itself is very clean and incredibly private. We spent most of our time swimming and relaxing on the dock sipping margaritas! The kids also did some fishing and even caught some good-sized fish right off the dock! The owners Bill and Donna were a pleasure to deal with and made sure out stay went perfectly! Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great vacation! We will definitely rent this house again!
