Stay Away from this Property if you want a good vacation
Initially, I didn’t want to write this review although we didn’t enjoy our stay. I decided to post it, so those who wish to book this property might re-considered it, so that you won’t ruin your vacation. We booked the cottage in January 2022. At that time, we didn’t know how many of us would stay. After check-in on July 29, one of our family friends went camping at Sandbank, they knew we booked the cottage and spent a night in the cottage with us, and they came in and hung out with us for BBQ and dinner too. The owner saw we had more people than registered, informed Vrbo and us to pay more, which I agreed with, and I emailed Vrbo with the number of people, asked them to adjust the payment. They hadn’t got back to me. On Aug 12, I messaged the owner on my own, said I haven’t paid the extra because I emailed Vrbo but they didn’t get back to me with the correct amount. Then the owner started being very rude, so I decided to share our experience. Like other reviews said, the property is not as described online, everything in the property is shabby and like they were picked up from the junk piece by piece, including the beds and bedding (we used our sleeping bags for the three nights we were there). Our check-in time was 4pm, the owner was still cleaning the place at 5:30pm when we arrived. I think he’s doing all of these by himself and very stressful. When we checked in, we saw the grease stain on the countertop, we didn’t complain or mention any of these, because initially, we booked this place only because we wanted to enjoy the beach, sandbank, we will be out all day on the beach, the cottage is just to save us from not putting on a tent. Not to mention, the freezer in the cottage is not working and we told the owner no need to fix it as we don’t need it. And there were tons of dead flies in the sunroom on the floor, which the owner aware of too. The owner has another small house beside the cottage that he rented it out. When we were there, we were unsure if he was helping the other unit or he did that on purpose (as we noticed that he is Paranoid.), it’s like he’s always around and watching us - No privacy when you are on your vacation. On Aug 1, our check-out time should be 11am. He was around the property since 7 or 8am, parked his truck beside our cars, sitting there, waiting for us to leave and watching us (you can imagine, how creepy it was), we even couldn’t enjoy our breakfast. Limited to # of texts, Not finished...more coming...

2/5 Poor

Another unintended Covid "gift"? We are all struggling to pivot and bounce back.
This is a situation where the pivot and bounce may still be in process. The property is lovely, but it needs a lot of maintenance. I am not slagging the host and I hope that this review remains private. We were the first guests since December according to the host. The host and the property are not currently ready for guests. We booked in January for a June visit. When we arrived at 3.30pm the host was trying to clean the house, make beds, do maintenance and also remove a broken refrigerator and install a new one while simultaneously a non-paying long-term rental tenant in the carriage house was being kicked out. The host did not finish?/leave until after 6 pm. The side/back yard was all torn up from a tree removal that was not recent. The house and deck had not been spring cleaned, bathroom fixtures and surfaces were dirty with grime. The back stairs to the back bedroom were covered in dirt and dead flies. The dishes in the cupboard had bacon grease finger prints and smears of bacon grease on them. There was a general lack of ongoing maintenance and repairs-ie wall patching and repainting- which could be due to Covid era stresses but the fact is the host was not prepared to have VRBO guests. I think that with everything that was going on he was really overwhelmed and reactive instead of proactive-- which was sad and very unfortunate, for him and for us. We quickly realized that this house, and its condition, was not what we had understood from the listing. The last 2.5 years had not been kind. I took pictures but my family agreed that complaining was not going to change the situation for us. We accepted the situation as we found it and made the best of it and we had a good time once we accepted the disappointment. As it is now, in the condition it is in now, this is not a luxury rental. But with timely maintenance and a deep clean it could be again. We hope that life gets more manageable for the host because this could be an excellent VRBO rental and if the maintenance were done and brought up to snuff I would stay again. As it is now, at this price point, sadly, no, I would not come back right now. I have rented VRBO properties for almost twenty years and have never given a VRBO property a review like this, I am just trying to be honest and kind. I hope life gets better, soon , for this host.

Relaxing getaway
Our family spent 6 nights here and it was a terrific place from which to explore Prince Edward County. The house was more than big enough for our family of three and for a friend to come visit for one night. Chris is a kind and courteous host. He made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed from A/C to nightlights. The weather was very hot during our stay and the air conditioning in the house was much appreciated. Chris even installed 2 more units to keep things cool. He clearly takes great pride in this property and it shows. Coming from Toronto, we all appreciated the quiet nights where all we could hear was the wind in the trees and crickets in the grass. It was very peaceful. We visited Sandbanks Provincial Park, Little Bluff Conservation Area, Picton, Bloomfield, Wellington, Waupoos, paddled the Black River, played mini golf at Caddy Shack, visited vineyards in Hillier and ate delicious wood fired pizza everywhere. Overall, a terrific vacation!

4/5 Good

A nice stay in PEC
This is a great property for a large group, seeking multiple rooms and sleeping options. Communication with the host was very punctual and any issues that we had while onsite were addressed and resolved.

2/5 Poor

Not ideal for families with small children
The property was large and clean but over-furnished, with very little space in the kitchen to store foodstuff aside from in the fridge. The host provided lots of drinking water which was appreciated and booking/checkin processes were good - the host was very responsive to questions asked. Be aware the cleaning fee isn’t included in the booking payment. We were also billed a large amount after our stay for an “antique” glass my daughter accidentally knocked over. Honestly I would think twice about renting this property if you have children and want a relaxed weekend.
