Very nice staff to answer all our questions. We went early and got in without reservation to eat directly across the street at Reykjavik Kitchen for delicious food. It fills up fast and oddly enough they turn away at half capacity. We had 2nd floor corner view of downtown. Will be beautiful when construction projects are complete. Great location near to rainbow St.

The property was incredible value for the quality of the experience. The rooms are comfy and cozy. The soaps are locally made and very nice. The restaurant and bakery in the base of the hotel is low key and casual, but cool and fun. And the staff was warm and helpful. Great location away from a lot of the touristy noise and souvenir shops. Would definitely stay here again.

Great vibe and location in downtown Reykjavík close to major attractions. Love the modern lobby, lounge and rooms. Front desk service was very helpful and friendly. I stayed at many higher end hotels during a week long trip and this hotel was a favorite. Only issue was that our room faced a bar ‘Miami’ and it was very loud with windows open and nights were warm:( . Ask for a room away from ‘Miami’ ! Also some construction blocked our route and was a bit challenging to get our maps to reroute...

A clean, comfortable and conveniently located art deco hotel on a park square. The suite the hotel upgraded me to was spacious with a marble bathroom, large bath and separate walk in shower. Breakfast buffet was great, and hotel is close to restaurants and other amenities. Small gym with treadmill, rowing machine and free weights. A spa with hot tub and sauna.

We have travelled across Europe and this hotel is by far the best! The front desk show that they are happy you chose their hotel. Splurge and book the king suite - amazing! Fantastic bakery on the corner - Brikk. 10 minute walk to Lava Show, Fly Over Iceland and Whale exhibit. 15 minutes to old town with lots of shopping. Hotel has loads of little rooms called lounges - some with fireplace or couches. Just a fantastic stay all the way around!!

Room was great, spacious, lots of space for jackets.
Nice central location with great walkability!
Check in was smooth; loved the complimentary phone with basic data and phone line that we could take around town.

Spectacular hotel with exceptional service. It is an icon of a building in Reykjavik, Iceland. The service staff were polite and very professional. I only want to stay here in Reykavik when I visit again. Great restaurants especially Tides and superb rooftop bar to see the sun setting.

it is a nice boutique hotel, and the host Maria is so nice and helpful. She even drove us to the bus depot when we missed the bus the pick up at the hotel. The breakfast was fantastic and we enjoyed it so much. Maria also provided us with information about the city, tours, and cultural events, which helped us to know the place faster in the limited time when we were there. I would highly recommend this hotel. It was like our home away from home. Thanks to Maria! Ansi

It’s a great central hotel. Close to restaurants, bars, buses to get to and from the airport/spas/sights. The only downside is the glass bathrooms. There are lovely bathrooms in the lobby though if you don’t care to share every ‘moment’ with your travel companion of choice.

The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and well kept. The sauna wasn't working, however there was scheduled maintenance the following day. The hot tub was beautiful and the restaurant was incredible! Every meal we had was great and the staff was wonderful. It's a tiny bit noisy in the mornings with the street cleaners, but overall, was incredible and would stay again.

The best area to stay in Skjol is the city centre, particularly around Laugavegur, Skólavörðustígur, and Hverfisgata.
This central area is the hub of the city, offering easy access to many attractions within walking distance. Laugavegur is the main shopping street, lined with boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. Skólavörðustígur leads directly up to Hallgrímskirkja church, a prominent landmark offering panoramic views of the city. Hverfisgata runs parallel to Laugavegur and also features a good selection of eateries and shops.
Couples often find this area ideal for a romantic trip. You're perfectly placed to enjoy leisurely strolls, discover cosy cafes, and experience the city's nightlife, from intimate bars to live music venues. The proximity to the Harpa Concert Hall, with its distinctive architecture, also offers opportunities for cultural evenings.
For those planning to explore beyond the city, staying in the centre is also convenient.
When is the best time to go to Skjol?
The best time to go to Skjol is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is mildest and daylight hours are longest.
During this period, you'll experience the famous Midnight Sun, with nearly 24 hours of daylight, which allows for extended sightseeing and exploration. Temperatures typically range from 10°C to 15°C, making it comfortable for outdoor activities like hiking, exploring the Golden Circle, or whale watching tours from the Old Harbour. Many attractions and roads that might be less accessible in winter are fully open.
For those hoping to see the Northern Lights, the best time to visit is from September to March. While the days are much shorter and the weather colder, the long nights provide the optimal conditions for viewing this natural phenomenon. You'll need clear skies and dark nights for the best chance, and tours often run from Skjol to areas with less light pollution.
