    Iceland Hotel Guide

Are you looking to take a trip to somewhere new and different? If so, then you may want to consider Iceland as a possible destination. Not only is this an exciting place to visit and explore, but if you travel at the right times of the year, you can find some of the best cheap hotel deals in Iceland, thus saving money on your reservations for the trip.

Contrary to popular belief, Iceland is actually only made up of about 10 percent ice in the form of glaciers. The rest of the country has a surprisingly mild climate considering its northern location on the globe. Part of Iceland's mild climate can be attributed to the nearby Atlantic Gulf Stream, which frequently brings warm air from the south up to Iceland. Therefore, depending on when you choose to travel, the country can be either quite cold or rather mild in temperature.

There is a lot to see and do in Iceland, so you will probably need to book your stay for at least a week in order to get a good amount of exploring done. Among the most famous sites in the entire country that most travellers make it a point to check out is The Blue Lagoon. This is one of just a few geothermal spas located in the world; the water temperatures there are toasty, even during the coldest months of the year. Not to mention, the mineral-rich water is great for the skin. This destination, located between the Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik, is great for people of all ages.

Iceland is also a great place for those who enjoy outdoor activities, particularly hiking and ice climbing. Hikers should be careful of the notoriously rough and unforgiving terrain, however. Most trails are not suitable for beginners!

Overall, there is so much to see and do for people of all ages in Iceland. As you begin planning your trip, consider searching for the top Iceland hotels and Iceland hotel deals. This way, you can locate the lowest rates and prices for your rooms and have more money to spend on fun activities. Depending on when you travel, you can take advantage of some wonderful Iceland hotel packages and land a special discount on hotels in Iceland. Rooms tend to go fast, though, so be sure to book that cheap Iceland hotel deal as soon as you find it!

    "good choice for us"
Friendly staff. No significant language barrier. The hotel is not in town but is only a 15 minute walk. It is apparently the original location of the IcelandAir airport and corporate offices and now is a private field. We were concerned about noise but we never heard a plane. Restaurant was quite good with a full breakfast including gluten free options. Airport is out of the city about 40 minutes away. Tour desk in the lobby was extremely helpful and all transactions can be made from there. If you choose to take an excursion or are venturing to another part of the island, the bus station is a 10 minute walk but nearly all tours pick up at the hotel. If you have limited time, take the Golden Circle tour and include a stop at the Secret Lagoon for a swim in any weather. For some history and lore, the 871 Settlement exhibit was excellent.

    "New experience"
First time in Iceland - for driving roads are very good. Airport excellent - well into 21st century. Hotel - arrived half way through Euro match so lad looking aft reception wasn't bothered about us. Managed to find stuff ourselves. Room was at back but 250m away the busy dual carriageway - so really, really noisy - all night long - even with windows shut. This hotel more like a motel in England. One room service during stay and then only to empty bins. No packs to tell you stuff (would have been appreciated). Hot tub - you ask at Bar and it takes an hr to fill but worth it. Gardens not well kept. Basically everything needs a polish up. Breakfast nice but same each day. KFC in front of hotel. After book in staff were really, really nice. Iceland lovely - lots to see - it is expensive - soup and coffee £20. Lost a bit of weight though!

    "Nice but hot"
Great location as hotel is directly downtown. Nice lobby, restaurant, and staff. Room was clean but as the hotel does not have air conditioning, the room was stuffy and hot at night even with the window open. Had to open the fire escape door (as manager said OK) to create cross-ventilation with room door open. Hotel did loan us a fan to help with the air circulation. The shower stall was workable but awkward. A larger person would have had a more difficult time with using the shower. Overall, nice hotel, adequate, but had its negative points.

"Great hotel in a good location in Akureyri"
Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2016. My understanding is that the Edda hotels are only available in the summer as they are used to house students during the school year. The room sort of looked like my dormitory in undergrad (not an insult - very nostalgic!). Very much enjoyed the city and the hotel. There was a sink in the room but the WC/showers were shared, not an issue for me but if anything was less than great it was these shared facilities - it was a bit tricky to get the shower/WC doors to lock and the drain in the shower was a bit slow.
