I think my experience was somewhat unique as Iceland has had unusually bad weather this past month. Outside the hotel was covered with a thick layer of ice and this wasn’t gritted like the Hilton down the road had been. This made it very difficult to leave the hotel on days where it had been rainy, making the ice extra slippery! My other critical feedback would be that the shower head had some limescale build up on it so the water sprayed everywhere and the water pressure wasn’t great.
Now for the positives! The self service check in was very straightforward and idiot-proof - you receive an email the morning of with the door code for the front door and the code for the locker that has your room key in it. We arrived well before check in time at around 1pm and our room was already ready for us which was a nice surprise! The rooms are kept at a very warm temperature but you can adjust the radiator if it’s too warm for you. The drinks machine is a nice touch - it was nice to be able to wait downstairs for our tour pickups in the morning with a hot drink, and to also end a long day in the cold with a warm hot chocolate!
Lastly, I just wanted to say that the hotel manager is exceptionally kind and friendly. We had a good 20 minute chat with him one afternoon and it felt like a nice personal touch that he made an effort to get to know his guests.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you have tours booked and don’t plan on going into central Reykjavik too much.
