A Beautiful Vacation Awaits You on the Emerald Smith River!

Family fun at the shore
This is a vacation spot you will want to return to. Our cabin is in a beautiful setting, perched above the wild and scenic South Fork Smith River surrounded by beautiful forest. The peacefulness of this river environment will linger with you for months.

Relax in sun or shade on our large deck complete with nice furniture, or lounge on the edge of the river with an exquisite view of our beautiful swimming hole from the stone patio area. An amazing stone stairway winds down to a magnificent sandy beach, where you can sunbathe, wade or swim in the pristine waters of the Smith. The clear green water of this famous river will soothe your soul.

Enjoy regular sightings of Dippers, Kingfishers, Mergansers, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, an occasional Bald Eagle or River Otter. Mask and snorkel open a world of small salmon and trout fingerlings, large Cutthroat Trout, and an occasional large Spring Chinook Salmon.

Our cabin is a very comfortable A-frame which was completely remodeled in 2004. It features a very nice open kitchen fully supplied with everything you will need to prepare a feast. The floors are wood/laminate, with three large rugs.

A large bathroom has a shower/tub combination and large sink. A nice river rock hearth holds a wood stove to warm you, with firewood provided. A nice carpeted loft upstairs has a comfortable queen size bed and half bath, accessed by a spiral staircase.

Under one angled wall of the main floor is a nice sleeping bunk area with covered foam pads and storage underneath, suitable for sleeping bags for two or three. A set of three pads can be made into a queen sized bed on the floor. During spring and summer some people enjoy sleeping on the deck or pitching a tent outside for larger groups.

The campfire area just off the deck is a wonderful place to enjoy an evening of storytelling. Don't forget the marshmallows!

Just what we were looking for!
This cabin is a bit off the beaten path which is exactly what we wanted!! Love the drive to get to the cabin. The property is clean and has everything you need in the way of kitchen supplies, towels, sheets, and plenty of wood for the outdoor fire pit and indoor wood stove. My husband and I slept upstairs while our three kids ages 7, 8 and 10 switched from sleeping on the floor in their sleeping bags to sleeping on the couches or the padded benches. (Remember to look under the stair case cabinet for extra pads for sleeping if you need them! The staircase was a fun adventure for the kids to climb on (they loved hanging off of the steps!) The view of the cabin is gorgeous as it looks over a beautiful creek with its own swimming hole! It was too cold for us to swim in in May but that didn’t stop us from frequenting it daily to walk in the water or search for cool rocks and just enjoy the scenery! Sally (one of the owners, Joe was out adventuring during our trip) was incredibly sweet and was always at home in case we needed anything. Be sure to walk around the mini grove and gorgeous gardens they have created! Nelly their beautiful golden retriever was always around to great us, walk with us down to the creek to play fetch in the water or by the cabin. She brought a lot of fun for our kiddos. Every day we were able to adventure out to see Crescent City, Ocean World, Pebble Beach to search for agate, the lighthouse, the sandy beaches where we found many live starfish, sand dollars, and whole shells. We also went to Trees of Mystery which is a must (be sure to check online or in our case a gas station attendant when the road from Crescent City to Trees if Mystery will be opened as there is road construction that closes the road for two hours at a time so don’t get caught in the traffic! We were able to get through to the Trees at 11am and made it by the skin of our teeth getting back through the construction by 3pm when it closed again.) Overall the experience was incredible and the cabin was amazing. If we were to go to the redwoods again we would be sure to stay at Sally and Joes cabin again!

Cresent City Joe & Sally A Frame
Had a wonderful time, however did not realize totally off grid, no TV, internet or radio. But once we were there it was great. Needs a toaster and new shower head. Nellie our ambassador was a wonderful golden and my pups loved her. Would differently go back.

Amazing Vacation Spot
My family and I had an amazing vacation. The location is amazing there is so much to do on the property that you might not want to ever leave. I enjoyed the “pool” it was beautiful and refreshing. My wife loved the view. And My baby had so much fun with Nellie (an amazing golden retriever who is very gentle). If I needed something joe was willing to help us out. Everything from lending a fishing pole to giving us suggestions on the best fish market, to wear to go for car repairs (which luckily I didn’t need after all). It was an amazing vacation, thanks largely to this amazing spot. With plenty of things to do nearby and on the property. The Gillespie’s have an amazing vacation spot and do a great job of taking care of your vacation needs. Thank you!
