Nice home with a gorgeous view!
The house was clean and the view from the back deck was spectacular! We were very close to the beaches in Crescent City, as well as redwood forests. It felt very secluded and private, which was really nice. The listing mentioned the spiral staircase to the lower level bedroom and bathroom. It was fine for our family, but could be an issue for some. The listing also mentioned kayaks, but there was only 1 pretty inexpensive kayak in the garage. If you are on a river and mention kayaks, I think you should have a couple of decent kayaks for people to enjoy getting on the water. Overall, we would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to see the Pacific Northwest!

Neighbor's dog ruined the stay ☹️😣
The house was great, views were stunning, BUT the neighbors and their dog were awful!!! I could not keep their dog from constantly coming onto the Vacasa property. On the second day, while my dog was exploring the yard, the neighbor's dog came over and aggressively attacked my dog!! I got mine safely away from the other dog (pitbull/mix), the owners were outside with their children and did nothing! I contacted Vacasa right away and reported the incident. I was told there wasn't anything that Vacasa could do to help, that it was between me and the neighbor. I then wrote an e-mail to Vacasa, explaining the incident and the issue with the dog and no fence between the properties. The local sheriff's department responded and the dog aggressively attacked his night stick when he went there! Even after the owners were told warned to keep their dog in the yard, the dog never stopped coming over, even the next day it came over three (3) more times. I grew tired and stressed of having to keep my dog locked up, with only the upper deck for access to outside, so I left my trip a day early. 😢

Cool house at great spot on Smith River
The view of the Smith River from the house’s 2nd story deck was great. We enjoyed swimming and wading in the river. The furniture and beds were all very comfortable. It was quite warm during our stay, so A/C would be nice, but not absolutely necessary. The ground floor stayed cool/comfortable and the evening breeze cooled off the upstairs at night.

Beautiful location, would visit again
Spent a week here and had a great time. The house is absolutely beautiful, loved the deck overlooking the river. Would 100% stay here again. However, the kitchen’s cleanliness was lacking (the provided spices were really sticky, some cups were not clean, but the rest of the house was spotless), and it was a challenge communicating with the owner/manager about pre-existing damages (it is a Vacasa-managed property). Additionally, a neighbor’s dog runs loose in the neighborhood and came onto the property several times, which made taking my dogs out a bit concerning. Managed to not interact with the dog at all so it wasn’t too big of an issue but something to be aware of for other dog owners visiting.

Quaint and Cozy
This is an older home that gives a sense of nostalgia. The view of the river was exceptional. We had a slight problem with the water pressure; however, the landlord's response was swift and it did not impede our vacation. They have notes around the house that are very helpful. One was about ants which helped us ensure we did not attract any. Overall, our family loved the house and would return.

Clean and spacious
My sisters and I were very happy with our 4 night stay. Lots of natural light in the living room, great deck, everything was super clean and new. Even a big washer and dryer. We used headlamps in the kitchen to prepare supper - just one very dim overhead lamp - and a couple of other quirks in the house, but nothing that interfered with enjoying our stay. Note: Be careful if you have small dogs or crawling babies. We built a temporary “wall” around the hole in the floor where the spiral stairs emerge, or our blind dachshund would have fallen through to the first floor. The only negative for me is that this isn’t really a VRBO rental. It’s VaCasa. I’m still trying to figure out how to contact the property manager about a few things. (Ex. Directions said to leave garbage and recyclables in bins, but there were no bins. Left bags in garage instead.) VaCasa also has a complicated rental process. After you get a confirmation email, be on the lookout for further emails asking you to confirm your identity. Your confirmation isn’t necessarily confirmed! Fortunately I gave my email a last glance before I left for vacation. Then none of the links in the VaCasa email or phone app worked, but I googled a phone number and an agent helped me. Thank goodness! But nerve-racking. The rental was great. The process to get it was stressful. And communication is bad - all due to how VaCasa works. But the rental house itself was just perfect for us!

peaceful escape right by the river
We loved the location - very quiet and peaceful and away from everything. The river is beautiful and very clear. One thing to note is that there wasn't anywhere to go for a walk due to being right off the hwy. The kitchen was stocked much better than we were led to believe, which was a nice surprise. However, the light is fairly dim , which was a challenge and something to be aware of. I would suggest bringing a lamp. Also bring extra paper towels if you will be doing a lot of cooking. We were there over Thanksgiving, so unfortunately one roll was not sufficient for us. Another thing to note is the lack of proper dining table, which I somehow missed from the photos. There is a table set up as a desk and a small folding table that we made work. There were ants as others have mentioned, but it was a small inconvenience. The rooms and beds were very comfortable, with adequate heating and cooling as needed. That deck is to die for, and aside from my notes, it truly is a wonderful house for relaxing and unwinding.

Attention to basic details
The house was incredibly clean and the view was beautiful ( the outside property was great!) but everything else was a little interesting. The water in the house came out brown. Not able to take a bath, when you fill the bath, sink, and the toilet refills; the water is brown. My husband and I decided to play it safe and bought bottled water to brush our teeth, etc. the mattress upstairs was also very old and worn in. I ended up trying to sleep on the love seat, as I couldn’t lay in that bed any longer. Also, throw pillows are not the same as pillows to sleep on. The bedroom we stayed in also had a ceramic garbage can that was broken into pieces but still put back to use. I had to move it into the corner so we didn’t step on broken porcelain.

Perfect riverside location
I have to admit, after reading some of the previous reviews, we were expecting to be greeted by hordes of dalmation-sized ants as we checked in. No ants to be found, we enjoyed the layout and location of this lovely property. I suppose future guests need to ask themselves if they would rather squint at windowsills looking for insects, or enjoy watching the family of river otters seen off the lovely riverside balcony. Your choice! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Amazing Location
Smith River is glorious, and house was exactly as described. Downstairs a bit musty, and they need some basic things (more drinking glasses), but it's small compared to the deck, the access, and the convenience to the river, the Redwoods, & the coast!

VRBO experience
Location was ideal. Kayaking on Smith River behind house, 15 mins from tons of trails, and variety of restaurants. Missing a few things (can opener) and few things not working (back burner on stove, one of the screen doors, drapes downstairs hard to open, etc). It did take 3 days to fix plugged toilet and I didn’t respond to messages sent in app and text/cell. Took 25+ minutes to find a phone number to call. When did get a hold of a nice individual it took multiple days to get out to house. This was my first time using VRBO. VRBO is similar to getting a hold of your landlord to fix something (aka elusive). This is different from experiences I’ve had with competitors, who are attentive.

Good location by the river, but strong smell and ants
Property location was good, but there was a strong smell in the house. Also a lot of ants. Further, vacasa did not reply to any of the messages in the app, very poor online customer service. It was fortunate that the local vacasa agent showed up for some other reason, who helped figure out wifi and tv issues.

Redwoods Trip
Great location, I wish we had longer to stay. The view was amazing from the deck and living room once it cooled down. The home location was great for the northern loop into the forest and not too far away from the southern forests, very easy day trip planning with this as a home base.

Great Location
The River view is stunning! Quiet neighborhood with great, quiet streets to walk our doggies. Very comfortable kitchen and living areas. The spiral staircase to downstairs wasn’t IDEAL, but it was just fine. The carpet downstairs seemed kind of dirty and ants were everywhere. It was rainy and cold the entire time which we expected and didn’t mind but it was pretty cold and the heat (especially downstairs) nearly didn’t suffice. The comforter for the upstairs bathroom was also bagged in the closet with a note that it was dirty and there wasn’t enough time to clean it... happy we brought some of our own blankets. So, overall a peaceful and nice stay-great and beautiful property-but just a couple of unfortunate things.
