"Super 5* hotel"
Great staff in every department but especially at the front door and the concierge. We experienced most of what the hotel had to offer and were very impressed. My kids want to return at Christmas time . . .

"Couples and Business Travelers"
My Wife and I had a very pleasant stay at the Lorien this past week. The hotel is located about a dozen blocks from the historic areas and waterfront attractions in Alexandria with shopping and restaurants of all styles in between. There is a free hop on, hop off trolley running from the Metro station about 3 blocks up, to the waterfront all day and into the evening. But timing is key with the Trolley and don't be surprised if a "full" trolley passes your stop during the peak times of the day! Overall I give this hotel 4 stars primarily due to a couple of things. The size of the "deluxe king suite" we had was very small, but still usable for a single or couple. The bathrooms were very spacious with a huge walk in shower, but the door to the bathroom was a big sliding glass door with large gaps when closed. Better not be too shy if sharing the room because you get very little privacy in there! Finally, no free internet? In this day and age, I would think free internet would be a given. Paying 12.95 a day for internet is very old school and something that could easily be provided complimentary. All this being said, this is a very nice hotel with polite and helpful staff and I would recommend it.

"Somewhat Dated"
The room was nicely tucked away on the 20th floor and the hotel staff were most accommodating. The room had an excellent view of the Washington DC area, facing east. All items in room, including AC worked well however, the room itself, while pleasant, is clearly dated. There was a need to include a power strip inside a piece of furniture because the room had an insufficient number of outlets. Additionally, the "coffee\tea block of wood bar box" was located directly in front of the window, blocking the view. The coffee maker is built into this block of wood and the Ritz coffee itself was a disappointment. But as noted above, the stay was pleasant. Just expected a bit more. Ultimately, the Ladies and Gentlemen who greeted at front desk stole the show. They were friendly and quite charming.

"Very Trendy Hotel in a Great Location"
I am a huge fan of Kimpton as their hotels are always surprising in a good way. They have many great "touches" and perks for their guests that I have never found at another hotel. Every night from 5-7 they have this great "happy hour" where they pour wine and and often a liquor of some sort gratis for their guests as well as a few snacks. It's a very nice perk. They also have bicycles you can use free of charge. Now the drawback to all this fun stuff is the crowd can get a little rowdy and the lobby becomes a zoo during that time period. So, if you're not into "the scene" this isn't the place for you. This particular Kimpton has a wonderful Italian restaurant in the lobby as well, called Urbana. They had a special "Restaurant Week" menu and for $35 we had the most delicious 3 course meal. The other issue is that we sadly had VERY NOISY traffic in the hallways at all hours of the night. The couple next door was fighting and slamming doors and it made the evenings quite unbearable...no fault of the hotel of course but speaks to the youngish crowd that was staying there. The rooms themselves are quite comfortable and no noise comes from the interior walls, just the hallways reverberate and you can hear every door and conversation.
