Rock Squirrel is a cozy 1 bedroom cabin with a queen bed. There is a 4-person dining table with chairs in the fully stocked compact kitchen. The full bathroom has a toilet, sink and stand-up shower. There are 2 outdoor areas to choose from. You might hear the river from the covered front porch while you sip on your morning coffee on table and chairs. The back porch features a sitting area with a propane gas grill and picnic table. Soak away your cares in the new hot tub or cozy up by the antique gas fireplace in the winter and watch your favorite movie! Rock Squirrel is one of six cabins that was built in the 1940's as a logging camp that helped Ruidoso to become the village it is today. We have kept the vintage charm alive while trying to give you all the modern amenities that you enjoy at your own home.... This cabin is located in the Upper Canyon, just a short walk away from the Rio Ruidoso. Wildlife is never far away… here you will see deer, turkey, elk, and in the warmer months, you may even see a black bear!

Started with having difficulty finding property. Next it was difficult getting in the front door and when I got in it was freezing. The heater operated with the thermostat did not work. There was a small electric heater that was totally inadequate for the house. As a matter of fact, we left at 4 am., less than 12 hours after being there, because it was freezing in the house with the small electric heater on and there were no additional blankets. Also it was difficult to get hot water. There was no place to hang clothes. Would not recommend. First time ever giving a bad review for a VRBO.

Nice place for the price
It worked for what we needed it for at the time, but it could have been cleaned a little better. Dirty silverware stuck back in drawer, dead worm/bugs all over floor and one smushed on the window. Also, the outlet that the tv and internet was plugged into was sparking and the internet wouldn't stay on because of the short in outlet. It would help if there was a light or something over the kitchen table. It was so dark it made it hard to see. Might I suggest a few more blankets as well. It got cold and we couldn't figure out how to get the heater turned on or to blow heat. There was no instruction manual although in the "welcome book", it said there was. It also rained but we couldn't sit outside and enjoy it because the deck didnt cover the patio chairs/table. Overall, it was nice and if we ever need to stay again in a pinch, we would consider it an option. The staff were 10/10 and VERY friendly and quick to reply to our messages. I did appreciate that.

Great vacation with the dogs
Check in was simple. Cabin was a little hard to find but it’s just because there are so many places around. It’s a older cabin that is well maintained. The bed was very comfortable: it was the perfect size for me and my husband. Very dog friendly. The back porch was great. We would definitely stay there again.

Overall everything was decent, the only issue was the bedding was not fresh, mainly the comforter. The sheets were clean, but the comforter was dirty and musty:( Everything else was ok.

Cozy beautiful cabin!
My stay was amazing, it was a romantic getaway! The owners of cabin are always in touch, they are there if you need anything! Check in process was very easy! Our power went out, and as soon as I text the owner they were over in minutes to fix the problem! Bed was so comfortable, living room was relaxing, amenities were great! Gas stove, and bbq grill were great! I would definitely come back!
