"Nice hotel close to the beach."
Beautiful ocean views. Hotel location outside of the congested tourist location of the bigger hotels. Hotel is walking distance to good restaurants and shops, as well as a great beach spot for small kids. Only downside is the noise from the buses.

"A homely hidden gem"
I stayed here for a week in August 2016, in a "deluxe studio" room. The Ilima may only be rated as a 2.5-star hotel but the room amenities outshine those of many 4-star hotels while only costing half the price. You get a kitchen with a proper fridge, cooker, microwave oven, space to prepare food and a table to eat at. They even provide pans, plates, cutlery, etc. It may be a few minutes walk to the beach but its location in central Waikiki makes it convenient for restaurants, bars, shops and buses. So what if it doesn't offer an "ocean view"? Nobody comes to Hawaii to sit in their room all day looking out of the window. It may lack the historic grandeur of the Moana Surfrider or the legendary service of the Halekulani but it provides all the essentials for a great vacation at a fair price. Tip - although there are many convenience stores nearby such as the excellent Food Pantry, if catering on a budget you can save money by heading to the Safeway supermarket at 888 Kapahulu Ave, a 10-minute drive from the hotel or hop on the #13 bus southeast-bound on Kuhio which runs every 15 minutes. If you fancy a taste of authentic home-style Hawaiian cuisine pop in to Ono Hawaiian Foods, a few minutes walk from Safeway at 726 Kapahulu Ave. The Laulau Plate is worth the trip - but bring cash, they don't take plastic. Tip - rooms with a balcony facing the mountains offer the best view. Higher floors are quieter, traffic noise can be a problem on lower floors.

"Amazing Staff"
Close to everything. Short walk to Waikiki beach. I would stay on the poolside of the hotel if I had to change one thing. The bar is open early and late. The restaraunt was spectacular. I left my son there for his first year of college and I felt like the staff were family. The entire staff were amazing and hugged me when I left. Pool is beautiful an big. The Hottub is awesome and there is a foot soaking spa open 24/7!

I've stayed at the Ala Moana, many times. The rooms are not that big, but they are clean. The biggest attraction for me is the location - it is central to everything. The hotel is always busy; as a result checking in and out can be a little bit slow.

"Paradise Getaway"
The resort is wonderful if you want to be away from the crowds and tourists of Waikiki Beach. It is pricey, but worth it. The resort overlooks the ocean, pool, golf course, dolphin lagoon, total panoramic view. I'm sure all the rooms have great views, and the ocean view is more expensive. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. If you select the right time, the ocean is almost private for you to swim. The pool is smaller than expected, but it was mostly kids, so I suggest an ocean swim. It's safe and shallow for quite a distance, but not ideal for snorkeling which requires longer distance out into the ocean. Luckily, there weren't too many rocks or coral to step on. There are surf lessons, kayaking, and dolphin experience. It seems the dolphins were well taken care of and have plenty of the day to themselves, so it's not constant work for them which would not be good. Plumeria breakfast buffet by the water is the best! High tea is served by the lobby, and great room service. The spa treatments are expensive, but it was wonderful since you get your own private room equipped with massage table, bathroom, tub, and vanity.
