Swim with stringrays and dolphins or just delight in the simple pleasures of sun, sea and sand on this well-kept stretch of beach.

With swaying palms, soft sands and aquamarine waters, Cabeza de Toro offers a slice of a Caribbean beach idyll. Stay in a resort along the beachfront or visit here for the day to enjoy sunbathing, swimming and sea activities.

Cabeza de Toro translates to mean “bull’s head,” which is thought to refer to the shape of the beach. Arrive at the beach early to get a good spot and check the information board for up-to-date news on swimming conditions and other pertinent details.

Lay out a towel on the soft golden sands and get ready to unwind. This stretch of beach is bordered by resorts rather than a town, so expect to share the sands with other vacationing bathers. A laid-back, relaxed atmosphere prevails.

Note the cleanliness of the fine sands and of the clear water. This resort beach has been awarded a prestigious Blue Flag, an indication of its high-quality amenities and environmental standards.

After an hour or two spent basking in the sun, enter the water for some heat relief. These waters are watched over by lifeguards and are suitable for the whole family. For more active pursuits, embark on a snorkeling excursion or look for rare birds at the protected wildlife refuge of Laguna Bavaro.

Cabeza de Toro links to other beaches along the coast. Walk north to reach the golden-sand Bávaro Beach, home to numerous resorts and popular offshore snorkeling spots. For the chance to swim with dolphins, call into the Marinarium marine park or the Dolphin Explorer center at the south end of the beach. Numerous activities are on offer here, from dolphin, shark and ray encounters to relaxing cruises along the Punta Cana coast.

If you get hungry, make your way to the road running adjacent to the beach. Local vendors sell food here and there is also a shop and a bar.

The nearest airport to Cabeza de Toro is Punta Cana International Airport. If you are staying in a local resort, transfers may be included. Otherwise, use a taxi to reach the beach. Parking is available near the beach too.
