"Good downtown hotel - if a sale can be had"
Perfect location to all major downtown attractions. Right on Sparks St, so no shortage of bars and restaurants to enjoy. For greater selection both Elgin St and the Byward market are within short (20 min) walking distance. Never had to wait for a cab as there is a taxi stand in front of hotel. Hotel bar and restaurant are decent, but not cheap (better choices on Sparks). A full Starbucks is accessible through the lobby. Room was a very spacious corner unit. A bit of street notice (morning commuters and construction at the Bank of Canada) would serve as an excellent alarm clock for light sleepers. Beds are very comfortable. Only complaint about the room is the washroom, as it is small with the toilet being placed at a very odd angle... results in only one personable being able to stand in front of the washbasin at a time. Would stay again if a similar Expecia sale could be had. If paying full price there are newer hotels in the area that would give you a bigger bang for you $$.

"Good for business stay"
I was in Ottawa on business - this hotel was less than 15 minutes to downtown with easy off and on the expressway and plenty of free outdoor parking for our large vehicle. I had a couple deliveries sent to the hotel and the staff delivered them to our room - great service! The in-room wifi was fast and the indoor pool had plenty of natural light which was pleasant.

"A SMILE and proper eye contact goes a long way ..."
I really liked the room ... very clean, nice décor, lots of space, with a queen bed, a love seat, couple of tables/desk, a little fridge, microwave and small coffee maker. I had a restful night. However, the TV cable system was down with the only option was to buy movies on demand with no offer for a discount on the movie rental. My main disappointment was that even though the evening and morning staff knew their job ... they were not warm, friendly or welcoming ... which for me is key ... an important component in any service industry. A smile and proper eye contact goes a long way ...

"Love this hotel!"
This hotel is close to everything! You can walk to the grocery store, lots of nice little pubs and restaurants, the Parliament Buildings, Byward Market, Rideau Centre, National Gallery, Rideau Canal - everything! There is a Starbucks on the corner and a Tim Hortons attached! The breakfast is fantastic and the staff is super friendly and helpful! The rooms are really comfortable and big. We have stayed here twice and are going back again in August!

Novotel Ottawa Hotel

33 Nicholas St, Ottawa - Map
"Can't beat the location"
You couldn't ask for more in terms of location. The Novotel is right next door to Byward Market which hosts great shops, bagels (!!!), coffee, restaurants, locally-farmed goods, and more. The newely-opened restaurant within the hotel is also fabulous. Great food (a tad overpriced), and really nice to take up to your room if you're feeling like a lazy night in bed. The lobby of the hotel is lovely and modern, but the rooms are tired and tiny. It's also strange to me that they don't offer rooms with two queen beds - only doubles. The one thing that really generally turned me off was that staff showed absolutely no interest in helping my friend and I with our luggage as we tried to wrangle our luggage cart and my small son who was TOTALLY OVER IT. A friendly smile, and a 'can I help you with that' goes a long way.
