“business trip in ottawa”

Hotel has a great historical look and feel, however, the rooms are showing their age. 24 hr taxis as well as a Starbucks on site a plus. Great location to the Rideau Mall and good eating. Note, they have started construction on an 11 story building accross the street so sleeping in may not be an option!

“Extremely impressed!”

The Lord Elgin is perfectly situated in downtown Ottawa. I initially booked for a week and booked an extra week. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area. Rooms clean, service pleasant, majestic old world style hotel. Loved my experience and would stay there again.

“OK but seriously....”

It's a nice hotel but literally i could have carried on a normal voice conversation with the room next to me. Ridiculous how paper thin the walls are. I won't be back.

“Lord Elgin is Central to everything that is Ottawa!!!”

We only stayed for a few days to attend the 2011 Rememberance Day memorial services and see a few local museums, etc. Lord Elbin is central to most anything you may want to do in the Nations Capital. Walking distance to most of the citys most popular destinations. Although we had a vehicle, we walked to Parliment buildings, the local market streets, several museums and the War Memorial (all within blocks). Beautiful, historic building and well maintained, we highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Ottawa.

When to go
We went for the Rememberance Day services at the War memorial. This hotel is just over a block away from the best view that the general public can get of the parade and service. Being there is very different from just watching it on TV year after year. An overwhelming sense of pride in being Canadian is in the air along with public demonstration of respect for our Service men, women. Of course seeing the veterans march by is very emotional knowing we owe so much to them and that they are responsible for the freedom of not just our Country, but the liberation of much of Europe and the rest of the world.

“I would stay there again.”

Great location. Stayed in an Executive King room, very nice at that price point. $25 per day for valet parking is a little expensive, no other option though. Walking distance to everything. I would stay here again.

“Satisfied overall”

I've come to appreciate that Canada is some what pricey. For the cost per night the place wasn't too bad, of course that didn't include breakfast. Overall the room was clean, although not as spacious. The bathroom was tiny but hey its a hotel room and not home. The restaurant is some what pricey, a few take outs within a walking distance but then when you are on a business trip you really aren't into going about exploring.

“Friendly and professional staff”

Everyone from the front desk at check-in to the restaurant staff were terrific. Food at the Grill 41 was outstanding. Although we booked just a standard room, they upgraded us to a suite without even mentioning it. We would definitely go back.

“Worst dining experience of my life”

The most arrogant waiter I have ever come across. Couldn't get a wine list...too far for him to walk to the bar. Waited forever to order and had to send the steak and rack of lamb back to the kitchen twice. A total disappointment!
