Carmel River Inn & Cottages
10/10 Excellent
"This is a really wonderful hotel. We stayed in the main building and had a lovely view of trees and the river. The grounds of the property are beautifully maintained with gardens, fountains, fire pits, and more. It's a really peaceful experience to stay here. We had breakfast from the little food truck and sat in the garden watching the butterflies. Would definitely stay here again."

"New hotel, clean , safe, quiet, family and dog friendly, for these reasons I would recommend staying here. We ordered some of their pizzas from their limited menu and they were delicious and did not disappoint, would highly recommend trying them out. They have beautiful courtyard areas to lounge and hang out. Our only complaint is the check in time, while they do clearly indicate check in is at 4pm, I've never stayed at a hotel that is so strict and precise about the check-in time; we couldn't check in a minute earlier. We arrived around 12 and hoped our room would be ready by 2 pm, it was not. A 4pm check in time is also not average in comparison to the regular 3pm standard time. Check out is strictly at 11am so if you're only staying for 1 night (like us) you get minimal time at the hotel grounds. Lastly while breakfast was complimentary, it was not specified that it was from 8am-10am only (also a very short window) we arrived at 9:45 and they were cleaning up already and wouldn't allow us to get food. This was very disappointing and not very hospitable. Just a few FYIs to keep in mind."

"Loved the location…easy to visit the state parks, Carmel-by-the-sea, and Monterrey…and The Views were A-amazing! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. Highly recommend—well worth it!"

"Overall, it was a good stay. We had a Quiet room but the location on property was poor. One side faced the property parking lot while the opposite side faced a construction parking lot. We should’ve been offered a discount since, as in the online photos, it showed nothing but pretty greenery and hanging plants. It was nice to have lunch at the umbrella tables in the center of the property. We arrived after the office was closed, but the self-check in instructions were clear and easy to follow. It was a little weird that they put the refrigerator in the bathroom. Property location was great! We could walk down the street one way to the shops, galleries, and restaurants, or out the other directions into the neighborhoods."
