Ocean View Mountain Home by Akaka Falls.

Ocean View Mountain Home by Akaka Falls.

10/10 Excellent
"The property is 35 minutes or so from Hilo airport, and our GPS had no trouble finding it. The only confusion was when it said we had arrived, we still had to drive forward to reach the driveway to see that we had, in fact, arrived. The winding path is a beautiful adventure bringing you to the house. Two main bedrooms with en suites and the laundry are on the bottom floor. To reach the second story, you must go up the outside stairs, but they are completely covered, so no worries if it’s raining. The wraparound balcony does not disappoint with the ocean and mountain views. There is a stream nearby with its soothing sound, and cows and horses (a couple donkeys if you’re lucky) can be seen on the hills. The living area, kitchen, and another bedroom and bathroom are on the second floor. Everything is decorated nicely with an Asian influence. The kitchen is well-stocked, and the refrigerator is full sized to allow for plenty groceries (or leftovers!). There is a full range and dishwasher also. A nice big TV and DVD player can be enjoyed from the reclining sofa. Any questions or concerns we had were answered quickly by the host. Our check-in and checkout-out instructions were clear and detailed. The property is not far from the main road to go anywhere, and close to ‘Akaka Falls park as well as a little town with shops and restaurants. (Be sure to check out the toffee shop, too. Five generations making the same recipe!)All in all, a nice place to call home on our vacation."

Honomu Place - Resort Oasis

10/10 Excellent
"Our family of twelve traveled to Honomu right after the largest hurricane the island had seen in over 150 years. We almost canceled, but this trip was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime “final hurrah” for my in‑laws, who rarely travel and don’t plan to fly again. When the airline confirmed it was safe, we decided to go — not realizing the island would be without power for several days.Even with a 3–4 day outage, this stay became one of the most meaningful vacations we’ve ever had. The home is beautiful, full of natural light, and surprisingly comfortable even without electricity. We spent our days enjoying the property, cooking on the barbecue, using ice chests, talking, laughing, and truly reconnecting as a family. It felt like “mansion camping,” and somehow it was perfect. Our host was incredible. They checked in often, opened an extra room for us, kept us updated on the local situation, and even had a neighbor stop by to welcome us and share where we could find internet and supplies. As soon as the weather cleared, they sent someone to clean the pools so we could enjoy the outdoor space. Their kindness made a challenging situation feel safe and supported. When the power finally returned, the host generously extended our stay for free, allowing us to fully enjoy the home. Despite the hurricane, this was one of my favorite vacations ever. The house was amazing, the host was amazing,My kids are already begging to return and missing the stuffed animal turtles!"

Oceanfront Promontory w/ Stunning Views & Luxury Accommodations. Walk to Beach!

10/10 Excellent
"We had a great stay while getting our daughter settled at UH Hilo. The location was perfect for us - close to Hilo, with a beautiful view of Honoliʻi Beach, but still quiet and peaceful. With the house looking out over the ocean and the redwood interior, it almost felt like we might sail out to sea! We loved being able to hear the ocean at night.Randall was a great host and very communicative and helpful throughout our stay, especially during the hurricane. We really appreciated how responsive he was and how well he kept us informed. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. It was a great place to call home for two weeks while we explored the Hilo side of the island."
