Now look, if you want a resort experience please just go to a resort but if you want to feel like you live in Hawaii this is the place to be. The view from the lanai is breathtaking and the pool house is the perfect size for two. I swam almost every day in the pool and watched the ocean in between laps. We visited the local Farmers market and hit the Public House our last day for delicious pizza (oh and Tex’s does have THE best malasadas. It is out in the country, with nothing obscuring your view of the ocean. You cannot reach the ocean from this location because you are high above it. But the views are outstanding, sun rise, moon rise and set, and stars. Home is very clean, well furnished and comfortable bed. Rachel was a great host; she provided good suggestions for nearby hiking and sightseeing and fresh fruit from her trees, but never intruded. Would definitely stay again. ##### Chris M. The view is amazing and the layout is nice. The breeze that runs through the windows keeps it cool. Rachel is an above and beyond host. She keeps the little things on hand that you would usually not think of when you’re on vacation. Stuff like coffee filters, dish soap, etc. She made us feel the true spirit of aloha and like we were part of her ohana. I would stay with her again anytime. ##### Paul Y. I visit at least once a year. Rachel, the host/owner, keeps a Ohana unit in wonderful shape, she's responsive and a pleasure to work with. She lives on-site. The day we arrived, so did the remnants of a small hurricane. The island and the property were being drenched. Rachel made it as easy as possible for us to get into the unit dry and safe. The unit itself has an unobstructed view of open Pacific. It is peaceful. At night you see the ships and the fishing boats working their way toward Hilo Town. It's a great place. ##### Greg E. Oct 25, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Peaceful, ocean-view remote guest house Rachel’s quaint on-site guest house is a peaceful retreat on the Hamakua Coast, magnificent lanai and ocean view. The vintage house has had some updates and is fairly comfortable and reasonably stocked, wry clean. Rachel was a delight to meet, and very quietly respectful of our property. It is about 5-10 min drive outside of Honoka’a, which is a cute town (although no dinner restaurants!).Rachel’s pool looked very nice, hot tub is not working but we were out exploring most of our days. 15 min drive to Waimea,a beautiful drive where you can find about anything. The night sky view from the guest house was amazing; bring a star chart or app to enhance your viewing! Our only suggestion would be to have a bit more information about the house and maybe the local area provided, but we found our way around just fine. This is a beautiful location on a hillside looking out on the ocean, and a good waypoint for seeing Waimea, Kovals and even Hilo-town and surrounding areas. ##### Mary S. Nights are quiet with no light noise, no traffic noise. You do hear (and see) the neighboring cattle and horses. You do hear a chorus of birds; finches, morning doves. The view of the vast pacific is unencumbered. The 1 bed 1 bath unit has a large lanai with a large table with chairs and 2 lounge chairs. It's southern half is enclosed in sliding glass panels to prevent wind driven rain from interfering with ocean gazing or star gawking. It has a clean, well equipped kitchen. The bed is comfortable and the bedroom is generously sized. The bathroom is finished in tile and it is very nice. One caution- The shower/soaking bath combo has an aggressive step in and out requiring you step high. There is a sturdy well placed grab bar to help. This was a fantastic unit to which I'd happily return. ##### Greg E.
