The staff was amazing! But this hotel is 60 years old and it is showing signs of it age. The pool needs to be BIGGER and a seperate one for adults only, it would have been a bonus to have bar service to the pool and the salt water cove.
This property needs a major overhaul. The place is run down and they’ve made some cosmetic improvements to try to change it, buts it’s like lipstick on a pig…major capital improvements are needed, peeling paint old facade. Room was horribly mildewy, and restaurant was dirty. Food in table cracks, horrible smells and overall unappealing. The staff is very friendly though.
Looking at the costs of the other hotels on the big island I thought this hotel would be “budget” quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. Grounds are beautiful, location is great, and staff were helpful! Not the best for beach swimming (lagoon is quite small), but the swimming pool is nice and there are swimming beaches within walking/trolley distance. Restaurant on site is pretty good and the view is amazing. They were able to give us a late checkout (for a fee) since our flight wasn’t until 9 pm, so that was helpful.
I booked a double bed room through Expedia, and indicated I had 4 people (2 kids) in our group. We arrived very late and tired at night only to be given a 1 bed room with a couch. When I went back to the front desk they told me the double bed booking was a request and not guaranteed. They gave us a cot, but by the time we had everything set up it was very late. We were at the hotel less than 12 hours and were still charged for a resort fee and parking. The staff were very friendly and tried to help, but given this experience I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
