Put the rat race in the rearview mirror and follow the back country road into an alternate reality - only 115 minutes SE of Kansas City. The road winds all around through the Ozark woods and across stone bottom creeks.

This secluded destination is 15 miles away from the nearest incorporated settlement. (Cole Camp is a very quaint little town and is certainly worth exploring while visiting us.) Hoot Owl Lodge is a two story, 3 bedroom and two bath lodge, with central heat and air conditioning situated on 150 acres mostly surrounded by timber. Lake of the Ozarks is located two miles south. The Lodge has been owned by one family since they built it in the last century. A real deal... the original home was built from rough-cut timber and still stands on the property. Explore the 150 acres, Brushy Creek and Flat Creek. You may keep any arrowheads you might find. Sit out on the elevated patio, cook on the gas grill beside the flaming fire ring and count the starry constellations. The firewood is cut, stacked and waiting for you. Watch the gigantic yellow moon rising over the creek and listen to a nocturnal empire of katydids, cicadas, whip-poor-wills, coyotes, bobcats and screech owls.... The story goes that in years past outlaws buried their loot on this property. So don't be surprised if Jessie and Cole Younger pass through the valley mists.

There are eating and drinking establishments and convenience stores scattered around in the hills and forests. Buck Naked Bar, Grill and Marina, Katt's Place and Rick's Oar House are just a short drive away. If you're scouting around, drive slowly and watch for deer. When you least expect it, you might see a bobcat or maybe even a mountain lion! Hoot Owl Lodge is your hideout in the Ozarks with a year-round groundskeeper and maintenance. Just think, all the amenities and no mortgage!

Lovely location to enjoy a quiet vacation. One of the creeks is located directly across the road from the house for the kids and pets to enjoy exploring and chasing minnows, crawdads, frogs, etc. Gather around the fire pit to enjoy roasting hotdogs and/or marshmallows. There is 150 acres of mostly wooded property. There are some maintained trails that are available on the property or other areas that are more challenging. If all or part of the group would like to explore the area more, it is a central location with short drives to the following attractions:

We really enjoyed our time at the Hoot Owl Lodge! Everything was very clean upon our arrival, and they even set up a booster seat for our little one. The hosts did a great job at communicating with us prior to our arrival and during our stay.

Family Weekend Getaway

Our family really enjoyed our stay. The house set up worked perfectly for having quiet time for our youngest but older kids could still be up without interrupting. Kids enjoyed playing in the creek and we all ended up making a ton of memories.

We had a wonderful time. The house was in the cuts and it was so peaceful. We literally had a ball chilling outside playing spades and monopoly.!!! They had everything we needed.

Country Charm

We had such a lovely stay at this cabin. Nestled in the woods and across from the stream, my whole family thoroughly enjoyed the property. The beds were comfy and the property was so clean and well cared for. Our hosts were most gracious and left excellent instructions and great local tips for area activities. Looking forward to visiting again.

Everything was just as it advertised, place was clean had everything we needed to cook pot, pans ext. Nice washer and dryer to keep up with clothes. Loved the old farm house felt right at home. Will rent again when staying in the area.

Enjoyed our stay!

We took our grown children and grandchildren to Hoot Owl for Labor Day Weekend. The house is older, as advertised, but was comfortable. We had plenty of room for everyone. A livingroom with TV upstairs for the children and one on main level for adults. Big kitchen with all the cooking needs met well. We spent evenings and early mornings around the firepit. It was fantastic. We used the gas grill and the huge picnic table on the concrete porch. Table was great for meals and crafting to entertain kids. The creek across the road was a big hit with everyone. Shallow enough for the kids to play and cool off. We even made water bottle boats and raced them. There is a marina a few miles away. It worked fine for launching our kayaks but was not safe for launching the fishing boat. My husband drove to another marina for this. All in all, we had a fantastic time. The owner was friendly and attended to any needs we had. It was great to be able to have our dog with us too.

I was staying at the hoot owl lodge was absolutely perfect. The house has everything you need to accommodate a full family. It's incredibly clean, inviting, and extremely peaceful with all the woods and property surrounding it.

Beautiful place to stay!

We had a great time at this place! Creek was awesome, my teenager spent the day there playing with all the crayfish and small fish. Great place if you love the outdoors and want to explore. Loved every minute and would love to go back and stay longer, there is so much to see and do in the area.

Perfect place for our family gathering. We did a daily hike on the property and the kids enjoyed the creek and looking for crawfish. We were a quick drive to Katy trail and Warsaw. We went to several hiking spots in the area too. The owners are very accommodating

We had a great time! Everyone was able to sleep comfortably and we made good use of the grill and the fire pit. Highly recommend going to Katt's place just down the road if you're looking for a night out less than a quarter mile away.

Great stay for a great price

The beds and bedding were great, plenty of privacy on the property as well. Everything was well equipped in the sense of having extra towels, silverware, cooking equipment, and even access to plenty of firewood. Definitely great for a low key time, only problem is connectivity issues with the internet due to being in the middle of the woods, but all in all, was a great stay

Family vacation

We stayed here for 9 nights when going to see family at the ozarks. Through our stay there were 15 total (some at different times) family names and friends and everyone had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the space in the house when it was raining. The kids had space to spread out and draw, read, play board games, etc. And when weather was nice we enjoyed the yard, big enough to have volley ball set up, walked in the creek, used the fire ring and had space to shoot guns and fire works. The dogs enjoyed the space to run and be in the creek as well. We will use this place again if the need arises.

Weekend at the creek

The house was great. Very peaceful place to relax. We were a bit disappointed that there wasn't a property map to show us the hiking trails. There wasn't any where to swim. My teenagers and young adults got bored. But overall it was a beautiful place.

Relaxing country retreat

We loved it. House was comfortable and had everything we needed. I did not think ahead about possible inability to open the VRBO app to get to the door lock info. So I did have to drive back some miles to get where I had good enough cell service to open the app. In the future I will make note of that in advance. Otherwise the experience was fabulous. Would stay again.

Away from it all

If you’re looking for a place to getaway from it all, this is the place. Elaine and Charlie were great hosts, answered promptly and very friendly. The house is super clean, cute, peaceful, and has everything you need. We had a relaxing time away and hopefully will going back! Thank you Elaine and Charlie.
