Best Western Grant Park Hotel

1100 S Michigan Ave, Chicago - Map
"Comfortable, clean and close to everything."
We stayed in this hotel for one night, hoping to be close to tourist attractions for our one day experience of Chicago. The staff were helpful and friendly, giving us tourist tips and allowing us to store our luggage while we explored the city the next day. Our room was clean and had all the standard fare for hotels. And the hotel was located right across the street from one of the coolest statue/art of about 50 walking legs (never did find out watt that was all about) and skateboarding park/green area, all of this adding to the welcoming atmosphere. We weren't kept awake by any traffic noise; on the contrary, we found the area to be very quiet and relaxed. We got out the next morning to walk around the Natural History museum, the aquarium and Soldier Field before we headed out for our organized walking tour through downtown Chicago. My only item for the wish-list: Most Best Westerns include breakfast with their stay, but this one didn't. There was a lovely restaurant in the hotel, though, but you had to pay for breakfast. And there was a coffee maker in our room, so we did get our caffeine jolt to start our day. So overall, we were very pleased.

Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile

160 E Huron Street, Chicago - Map
"Nice location, right off the Magnificent Mile"
We went as a family vacation. We have a 13, 11 and 8 year old. The pool was small, but the kids loved it. 3 blocks away from The Water Tower and John Hancock Building. Loved being within walking distance to the restaurants downtown. Check with the Concierge before you go out to eat because he has vouchers for some restaurants that allow you to skip the wait for dinner and be seated almost immediately and with Chicago there is at least an hour wait no matter where you go. The kids loved the rooftop pool especially at night. It is on the 40th floor with an amazing view of Lake Michigan.
