“Worth its money”
It's pretty nice, clean and safe hotel. We had a room with show and toilet on a floor nevertheless there were not any inconveniences (there was a wash sink in the room). If you want to safe money on hotel it's good deal because the hotel location is really good!
“Charming and affordable in an historic LA district”
I loved this place - I stayed here while running in the LA Marathon. I decided I'd rather buy a Garmin watch than pay hundreds a night in the official race hotels. I thought it would be a gamble, given some of the other reviews here and elsewhere. My experience was (and I am well-traveled): a clean and quiet room; excellent staff; a kitchen area with microwave and coffee maker where I could make my 3:30 am race-day breakfast; the Hotel Cecil next door is a charming, has a beautiful lobby and a hip coffee shop with great coffee and fresh croissants. Nice sidewalk tables outside. Most guests seemed to be student or Euro-traveler types, eclectic. I loved the neighborhood - its a bit gritty but cool, the old hotels and theatres are beautiful historic relics. Never felt threatened walking around after getting used to it (not as clean as downtown Chicago but very interesting architecturally, lots of excellent groceries and restaurants nearby). Sure - I probably would suggest a different option for a family with kids, but if you're a single traveler or couple you'll appreciate the value of this place.
“Cheap,Fun,Exciting,Place to Stay”
Me and another person stayed here for 5 nights..with a a twin bed and bathroom. It was sorta small, but had a view of Main St from the 4th floor.Stay shares a building with the Cecil and a coffe shop in between them.We were in the Martys every mourning. The staff was great at Stat,Cecil, and Martys...great security guards. But there was one clerk at Stay that liked to talk a little much...and he wasent hispanic or a girl...so if you stay at Stay youll know. But hey thats not a bad thing. We spent a whole day downtown,a few days in Hollywood by taking the red line which is only about 7 blocks up,and went to Santa Monica...all without a car.Yes there are homeless in the area and the area is pretty loud all the time but dont let that stop you from this great place. The shared batrooms are fine theres several on eath floor, you can lock em and are clean. You wanta get a feel of LA STAY here.Im from KC and been to NY but ny ant got nuttn on LA the greatest place on earth!
“Stay again and again!!”
The neighborhood has had a checkered history, but it's evident that downtown LA in on the up. Congratulations to the owners of Stay for creating a comfortable, clean and importantly secure establishment. The contemporary furnishings were simple and tasteful, I had a 32" flat screen TV in my room, brand new mattress and duvet. I had a look around the other hotels in the area and nothing matched up in the same bracket, including the Cecil which strangely enough is owned by the same group but not as well furnished. Stay is simply a gem - incredibly low priced for the standard. In no way would you think you were in a hostel. So, I had to share a shower and bathroom - just not a problem when they are as clean as those at Stay - If I needed to return I wouldn't think twice!! A special mention to the staff who within minutes of my arrival were giving me an itinerary of restaurants and bars to visit - excellent service! As for the locale, yes there are plenty homeless in LA, but most of them leave you alone or just want spare change - the decision is yours. In a few years time I think the significant improvements being made to the area will only improve this up and coming district. Plenty of eateries such as the Nickle Diner, LA Cafe and Baguette provide excellent food for a reasonable price. Providing you keep on your toes, don't dress like a tourist and walk with purpose - you should be fine! A 5 Star experience!!! (And thats without going to Venice Beach or the Hills!!)
“Great Stay”
I must say this place has an upscale modern feel with that hungry artist appeal. I just love the flat screens, internet access, video games plus meeting bands and artists! My stay is always wonderful. Two thunbs up.
“Affordable Price”
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I recommend this hotel to any person who is in budget. The hotel is affordable, clean, and their staff are very helpful.
“Great Stay”
great location, parking close by friendly and helpful staff
“Nothing "Hostel" about this hotel!”
This is billed as a "hostel-type" hotel, but is so much more. A female friend and I booked a room with twin beds and a shared bath. The rooms were decorated like a display at Ikea, very cute! The hotel had free Wi-Fi, four Macs available for guest use, complimentary continental breakfast, and clean restrooms. We never had to wait to use the restroom or showers. I would definitely recommend this place to the hip, budget-minded traveler.
“Cute and cheap”
Over all I liked the hotel a lot for the price and it was very cute and different.
“Comfortable and safe budget hotel”
If you are just looking for a good clean, safe and affordable place to sleep this is definitely the hotel for you. The surrounding area may be a little dodgy for a unexperienced world traveler. For me I felt pretty safe
