Sayulita

Travel Guide
Sayulita which includes a house
Stunning beaches, rolling waves, water sports, jungle treks and superb restaurants await visitors at this stylish getaway on the Pacific coast.

Sayulita is a chic, laid-back coastal resort backed by the jungle-clad slopes of the Sierra Madre. Explore the attractive village where brightly painted bars, cafés and hotels line a wave-strewn beach.

Once a sleepy fishing community and an off-the-beaten-track destination, today Sayulita attracts many visitors with its ecotourism, surf and outdoor activities. Water sports are part of almost every vacation here and surfing is particularly popular. Rolling waves crash onto the shore year-round and are suitable for all levels. Take lessons with experienced instructors or join daytrips to more challenging breaks. Bodyboarding, kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding, as well as regular swimming, are also commonly practiced here.

Jump on a panga boat, discover secluded snorkeling spots and try deep-sea fishing. From December to March, boat charters embark on whale-spotting excursions too.

Out of the water, relax on the soft sand or a sun lounger. Sip on beers, margaritas and freshly squeezed fruit juices while admiring the views of forested hills. Watch as bohemians, honeymooners, families and surfers mingle harmoniously.

For more active adventures, go trekking in the surrounding jungle. Hike to mountaintop lookouts and waterfalls, ascend to the treetops of a rainforest on a canopy tour and look for birds such as parakeets and pelicans. Guided horseback tours also run in the region and mountain biking tracks can be found here too.

Centered on a pretty square, Sayulita’s village is a lively commercial and entertainment district. Wander down palm-shaded streets lined with galleries, shops and vendors. Browse for artisanal jewelry, one-of-a-kind artwork and surfing apparel. Dining options are plentiful, ranging from ceviche restaurants to pavement cafés to taco stands. Party until the early hours at bars and live music venues.

Sayulita is about a 30-minute drive north from Punta Mita and about an hour’s drive from Puerto Vallarta. Public buses travel between the village and Puerto Vallarta.

"This property was ideal for a getaway in the sun. It had all the amenities of a larger resort - spectacular beachfront location, great bar, restaurant, gym, superb rooms with ocean views - in a smaller scale. The pool is one of the nicest I've ever seen with a swim up bar, infinity views of the ocean ..."

"Tony was great from our initial contact to answering questions. walking distance to town and the beaches ( Florence is on the rd. to Playa Los Muertos). Good footwear is required because rds are cobblestone and the town is hilly. No need to rent a golfcart if you don't mind walking."

It's really grown since we were here 3 years ago. But still a great place. The El pastor taco stand beside the papillo lift hotel are amazing and only open after dark. They have a new bus terminal which is awesome. The bus into PV is only 46 pesos.

We enjoyed our one week stay in Sayulita, but wouldn't go back. It was too small to do more time there. Our main adventure there was a 6 hour cruise/swim/snorkel trip, with food and drinks. Definitely worth the time and money.

Depends on what you're looking for. It's noisy, bustling with music/dancing through the night, the beach is packed, lots of drinking and dining options... Locals are warm, as are the tourists. It's not a getaway, quiet, realax, lay on the beach area

Worth eating pizza & drinking marguaritas at Mi Chapparita (south end) right on the beach at night (beach crazy busy during the day but no one on the beach at night) so this was a nice place to chill & watch the sunset. Way busier than 7 years ago!

The bus depot is great! We used it to go to San Pancho, Lo de Marcos, La Cruz (met up with friends) & took bus to airport in PVR. Easy, inexpensive & really increased my incentive to learn Spanish so I could just plain talk to the locals.
