"The owners (different than the host) are the best! They made sure that we have everything we need to make our stay comfortable and stress-free as our house in Ka’u was damaged by Hurricane Lala. The Nene Room was beautiful, clean and peaceful with its large picture window overlooking the serene forest. We also stayed in Gecko room that has one bedroom, living room, and kitchen. "This is an OK place if you're not looking for everything up to date and sleek. They provided breakfast fixing but we brought our own and left most of theirs untouched. The property is secluded and quiet as long as fellow travelers are quiet. nicely decorated and close to the National Park. a big plus"

"Beautifully maintained property. Large rooms and perfectly prepared. Don't miss the hot tub. A nice soak out in nature with all the soothing sounds. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful! Going beyond the necessary. I stayed through a passing hurricane and they made certain i was well prepared for any potential problems and even prepared a meal in advance just in case, no charge. I highly recommend the lodge and thankfull to all the folks there!"

"This hotel is more like a rental house than typical hotel. There are only eight or so rooms and each one has nice views with privacy. There is no staff on site but you can contact them is needed. I would stay here again. One thing to consider, you are 30 minutes from most services. If you don’t mind that and want something quiet this is a great option."

"The flora and fauna surrounding the unit is amazing. I took at least 25 pictures to savor the memories of the beauty. The unit is tiny but we were more than willing to spend a few nights in a small space in order to enjoy the beauty all around us. The shower was excellent.The outdoor sitting space was an enjoyable extra.Would highly recommend."

#05 Colony One at Sea Mt. Punalu`u

"It was a nice spot in an area where there aren’t many places to stay. We liked the proximity to Volcano National Park and Punaluu black sand beach. It was a cute place and had the basics we would need while there. It’s definitely best suited for a couple, not a family. (Amenities were obviously for two people: beach towels, chairs, etc). The king size bed was comfortable and the sofa bed was exactly what one would expect it to be. This seems nit picky, but the pillows were awful. There had to be 6-8 pillows and they were all weird and uncomfortable. That was the worst part of the stay. We are a pretty forgiving and flexible family, and all of us complained about the weird pillows. Overall, worth it for the location. The pool and jacuzzi were nice and we made use of the grill, which was convenient because it was so close to this unit. Outdoor seating was nice, too."
