"Got this room for my sister-in-law. Not only did she not feel safe there but the room was dilapidated- the walls had extreme levels of peeling paint and the sheets were heavily stained. She didn’t stay the night and I will be contesting the charges. "

"This hotel is central to everywhere we want to go in SF! Plus, we feel safe in this neighbourhood. We love the atmosphere at Union Square, and BART is close by for our trips out to the suburbs. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and clean, and our room requests were met 100%. We have stayed at the Handlery many times over the years, and will stay here again! Thank you!"

"The carpets were dirty, black mold in the showers, the mattresses were cheap and uncomfortable, the elevator is slow, small and usually occupied. Took the stairs to the 5th floor and down most of the time. Aside from that, its good place to stay for a night or two on a budget. Parking is secured in a gated lot next to the hotel for $32-40 per night. Walking distance to good eateries. Recommend food within walking distance: Cafe Buenos Aires on Polk st. for their variety of fresh empanadas and desserts, fruit fruit smoothies and hot mushroom drinks and matcha. Then to have the stews/soups and other chinese foods at Hai Ki Mi Gia on Ellis. Both eateries keep a very clean place and presentation of food, on top of the food tasting delicious."

"Excellent city view (worth the price). Great location on Nob Hill. Ideal for family stay. Extortion pricing in the lobby machines and mini-store (($8.00 for a 4 oz. bottle of Pepto-Bismal, $10.60 for one bottle of cold beer!!). Just do your shopping in the surrounding shops..."

"as soon as I checked in, I got a noise complaint within an hour of me staying and unpacking. You can hear people walking above you and next to you. The wrap on the walls are peeling in the corners of the cracks. I woke up with bug bites on my finger and in my ear as well as red bumps on my face. This hotel is not kid friendly."

"Clean room, easy parking, at the time of this stay only 2 of the 6 elevators were working and only allowed 5 people per elevator. One elevator in the front, and if you know the secret, one service elevator in the back. After a nice concert at the Bill Graham it took forever to get to our room because of the wait for the elevator. And definitely put the do not disturb sign up if you want to sleep past 8:30 am as housekeeping is knocking on your door, opening it, and the whole hallways doors too, at 8:30am asking if your need service or are checking out. Ruined my morning for sure."

"The room was clean and the staff was extremely helpful and kind. The building definitely has remnants of that 60’s vibe. You can hear everything going on outside. Glass louvred windows were not efficient noise cancelling so when guests were partying until 3am it was not conducive for sleep. My room was on the first floor. "

"Staff was friendly and welcoming 24/7. I never had to open any door myself in the lobby. I felt safe and it was clean. Location isn’t noisy at all. Probably the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in for an exceptional price. "
