Kata Noi Beach

Find a stretch of peaceful paradise at this small, often overlooked beach.

Kata Noi – meaning Kata “small” Beach – is a world away from many of the larger tourist beaches on busy Phuket Island. About half a mile (800 meters) south of Kata, Kata Noi stretches between two headlands at the end of a dead-end street. The beach itself is half a mile (800 meters) long and, on some days, almost deserted. Said to be one of the prettiest beaches in Phuket, it benefits from being on the road to nowhere, and for this, those in search of utter peace can be thankful.

Families will appreciate Kata Noi’s lack of nightclubs and bars, as well as one of the safest swimming beaches on the island. For much of the year the water here is flat, warm and crystal clear, and there are few jet skis or surfboards. From May through October rent a snorkel and explore the tropical fish and stunning coral nestled amongst the rocks at the south end of the beach. Unwind with a massage from one of the shacks dotted along the shoreline, or simply pull up a sun lounger, lie back with a book and soak up the sunshine.

If you want to stay a while, book into one of the luxury resorts, hotels or bungalows. The largest resort here, Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, has many of the town’s restaurants. Dine on local seafood specialties or international cuisine. For a romantic meal for two, make a reservation at Mom Tri’s Kitchen a popular fine-dining spot perched above the rocks on the hill towards Kata. It has views across the bay and an extensive wine list. There are a few local restaurants serving family-friendly meals in town, and sun lounger vendors sell snacks on the beach during the day.

Just 12 miles (19 kilometers) from Phuket Town along scenic ocean roads, Kata Noi Beach is a pretty drive and easy day trip for anyone looking for an escape.
