The best time to go to Hvaleyri depends on whether you're seeking the summer's midnight sun and outdoor activities or the winter's potential for Northern Lights and snowy landscapes. For those prioritising warmer weather and longer daylight hours, the summer months from June to August are ideal. Temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 10°C to 15°C, and the nearly 24 hours of daylight allow for extensive exploration of the Reykjanes Peninsula and its unique geothermal features, like the Blue Lagoon. This period is great for travellers who enjoy hiking, whale watching tours from Reykjavík's Old Harbour, and general sightseeing without the worry of short days.If your primary goal is to witness the Northern Lights, then the colder, darker months from September to March offer the best chance. While temperatures can drop below freezing, and daylight hours are significantly shorter, the clear, dark skies away from city lights provide an excellent backdrop for this natural phenomenon. This time of year is also suitable for enjoying the geothermal pools and experiencing the country's snowy landscapes, perhaps with activities like glacier tours or ice cave visits.
