"Staff was pleasant and helpful but the rooms are in poor repair - tub had deep gouges through the enamel, walls had unrepaired damage everywhere. The smoke alarm was off the ceiling sitting on a shelf without a working battery - this was replaced when I insisted no I couldn’t wait until tomorrow. The bedding and towels were VERY CLEAN and good smelling, staff cleaned as well as I think the old fixtures allowed. Breakfast room was clean, well attended, and the coffee was good. (Breakfast looked good and plentiful but I was meeting someone so didn’t try it)."

"Wallpaper falling off walls. Bathroom was clean. Toilet paper roll falling off the wall and not functional. TV didn’t work if you were using the coffee pot. Room wasn’t cleaned until we asked. Amenities and parking were $20/day even if you didn’t use them. Unfortunate because it could have been a good stay in an older eclectic building. Staff was very nice when notified though- although they just said there was nothing they could do about it as we booked through hotels.com. Hotels.com should vet their places better and not book out trash. "

"The Opera House Hotel is a gem in the south Bronx. Check in was very smooth and we were given a sheet explaining how everything "works" at the hotel. I can't emphasize enough how clean the property was. I couldn't say the same for the sidewalks outside, but inside was very impressive. Even the elevators and the stairwells were spotless. We thought the elevator was a bit sluggish, but got the job done. The room was also very clean and tidy. We thought the bulbs in the lamps on either side of the bed were fairly dim, but we preferred them to the overhead light. One of the switches was very loose and you had to hold the bulb still to turn the switch. Likewise, the desklamp had no bulb in it. Had we spent more time in the room we would have probably asked about a new bulb for that fixture. Unlike most hotels we've stayed at, there were no complimentary containers of shampoo or lotion. The shower in the bathroom was very modern and clean. There were soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers in the shower. The closet in the room was nice and big, with hangers, but there was no hair dryer or iron/ironing board in the room. The bed was comfortable but the laarge pillows were fairly solid and not the most comfortable to us. We felt it was fairly warm in the room, even though outside temps were in the 50s and 60s. We ended up running the AC to keep the room comfortable. We were happy with our stay and will probably stay there again on our next visit to our son's family."

"Very impressed by this hotel! Super clean and comfortable. The staff were amazing and very helpful! We felt comfortable walking around outside the hotel and it has lots of access to public transportation both bus and subway. I would love to stay here again on our next visit to the area!"

"Hotel location is great, room was ample and impeccable. The complimentary breakfast has been downgraded, it used to be a good latte/capuccino and choice of pastry, now it is a cup of plain drip coffee and a dry croissant or bagel. Not very nice for the $500 they charged for the room."

"Wonderful spot. Friendly staff. Loved the breakfast voucher for the bakery next door. The only negative is that the bathroom was tiny. I will definitely stay here again."
