"New hotel. More like a swell apartment."
This is much more like an apartment than a hotel room. They don't provide breakfast, but it's better to be on your own for this. We were able to cook in our full kitchen for breakfast and/or lunch. We ventured out to many good restaurants in the vicinity and beyond for dinner. All good food. There are good supermarkets within walking distance. The hotel provides free bicycles and beach towels for the beach nearby. It has a nice pool and the staff was so helpful. Definitely would go back. So clean! I cannot say enough great things about this place. Maria runs the place with a great staff support.

A really great little hotel. Only 12 rooms, but well designed and thought out.Very good location. The rooms were quite small but well laid out and very clean. The manager (Alex, I think) was very polite and extremely helpful, he also spoke excellent English. Would recommend to anyone.

"Hostel, not a hotel"
I only spent one night in this hotel and it was enough for me. I felt like in a commune and I could clearly hear our neighbors trough a ventilation whole between our bedroom and their bathroom. The rooms are clean, but very basic and I recommend spending more and getting one with AC. Having said that, I must admit that the patio is very nice, with little palm trees and hammocks. If it were a HOSTEL, I would say it is a superb hostel, with a lot of charm. However, a little to basic and crowded for a HOTEL. Students and backpackers will for sure enjoy it.

"Heaven is a place on earth!"
What an amazing property!!! The resort's fabulous staff and out of this world zen feel, combined with outstanding attention to detail, made this a once in a lifetime vacation. We were extremely fortunate to visit during a time near the end of owner transition and were two of only a dozen or so guests for the week. We received service that was second to none and loved the food, rooms, and wellness services.

"Nice hotel in heart of Tulum"
Our stay at Gardenias Inn was fantastic. It was exactly what we were looking for. The inn is very, very small- just three rooms. However, having observed some of the other accommodations in the town (excluding the resorts along the beach), it was by far and away the nicest. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful (the owner, Susan, helped us with transportation, restaurants, and even confirmed our shuttle back to the airport for us). The inn is also very secure: it's heavy gate is closed and locked at all times. (Tulum seemed to be generally safe, but the security gave nice peace of mind). The rooms were extremely clean and a decent size. The only thing I wish I had known before arriving is that the bathroom is separated from the room only by a curtain- not a deal breaker, but definitely a surprise on arrival. Fresh juice was placed out for guests every afternoon, which was a nice touch. In terms of location, we thought it was perfect. We could wander about Tulum on foot, looking in shops and finding restaurants. The beach was just a ten minute cab ride away, costing about $80 pesos. The Collectivo was just a five minute walk away and easily got us to Labna-Ha Eco Park and the Tulum Ruins (costing $40 pesos/each). The ADO bus was about a 15 minute walk (it takes you lots of places, including the Coba Ruins and the Cancun Airport). Overall, a fantastic place-- HIGHLY recommend.

"Fabulous Time!"
First off, I want to make it clear that not every room is the same at Retiro Maya. I was staying in a single room in a large house. Sometimes they rent out the whole house to one group, sometimes they split it up for various people. I was literally a hop, skip, and a jump from the beach. I had electricity all the time, internet all the time, a lovely, lovely room with a closet and drawers for my clothes. Fresh sheets & towels, my own private bathroom. Tremendous! The only problem I had was that there wasn't any hot water when I arrived. I told the staff about it, they said they would fix it right away--and they did! They couldn't have been more professional or friendly. I am not a big drinker so I can't comment on the bar here. Nor did I do any yoga. There's a bike at the hotel next door, a taxi was there whenever I needed it. I just had no complaints and would definitely stay there again.
