The Pacifica Inn

The Pacifica Inn

"The owners (different than the host) are the best! They made sure that we have everything we need to make our stay comfortable and stress-free as our house in Ka’u was damaged by Hurricane Lala. The Nene Room was beautiful, clean and peaceful with its large picture window overlooking the serene forest. We also stayed in Gecko room that has one bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The Gecko room is comfortable and perfect for family and longer stays. The surrounding is quiet and close to stores, restaurants, and very close proximity to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park."

"We stayed in the Garden room and found it to be a little peace of paradise all on its own. The host was absolutely fabulous, he would come over in the morning and get the coffee going, gave us an itinerary of events going on for each day of the week. On Monday he hosted a bonfire bbq, with drinks, food, and entertainment. We felt very welcome here. One of the highlights beyond the awesome hot tub in the jungle was the outdoor shower, now I want one at my house. This will definitely be our Hawaii home for every trip to the big island. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay or a better time staying there. Absolutely the best resort I’ve been to."

Volcano Acres Ranch B&B

Volcano Acres Ranch B&B

10/10 Excellent
"Staying at Volcano Acres was truly one of the most special parts of my Big Island trip. The peaceful pond, adorable animals, and beautiful surroundings made it feel like a little sanctuary. Inside, every detail showed so much thought and care: the comfortable cotton sheets, cozy robe, delicious coffee, helpful notebook, and all the little touches that made the room feel warm and welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional: fresh, high-quality, and beautifully prepared. I especially loved the wonderful fresh papaya Evie prepared. You could feel the care that went into everything. But what made this stay unforgettable was Theresa. She is the kind of person who puts her whole heart into what she does, and I could genuinely feel her kindness and caring throughout my stay. I feel lucky not only to have stayed here, but to have met her and had the chance to have a meaningful conversation with her. This is much more than a beautiful place to stay. It has heart, and that is something you don’t find everywhere. I left feeling genuinely grateful that I chose this place. ❤️🌿"

Chalet Kilauea

Chalet Kilauea

10/10 Excellent
"This was by far the best stay I had on my entire trip! Tucked away in the cutest little village, this perfect gem has all the charm and feel of the island. You can truly see the care put into every detail of the interior, making the entire stay feel warm, authentic, and inviting. My favorite part was hearing the frogs at night. I opened the windows, listened to the sounds of the island, and had one of the most peaceful nights of sleep on the entire trip. I will definitely be back! If you’re visiting Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, I highly recommend staying at this charming little Chalet Kilauea. You won’t be disappointed!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Kaimu?
The best area to stay in Kaimu is the nearby Pāhoa village, as Kaimu itself is primarily a historic site and not a residential area with accommodation options.Pāhoa offers a central base for exploring the Puna district. It's a small, laid-back community with a unique "Old West" feel, characterised by its wooden boardwalks and historic buildings along Main Street. You'll find local eateries, art galleries, and shops here. For couples looking for a relaxed and authentic Hawaiian experience away from the bustling tourist hubs, Pāhoa is an excellent choice.
When is the best time to go to Kaimu?
While Kaimu is a fascinating area, it's important to note that the original village was destroyed by lava flows in 1990 and much of the coastline has been reshaped by volcanic activity. Therefore, when planning a visit, you're primarily looking at the broader Puna district, and the best time to go is during the dry season, from April to October.During these months, you'll experience consistently sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring the unique geological features and black sand beaches that have formed in the wake of volcanic activity. This period is great for those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking to new lava flows (when conditions permit and it's permitted) or visiting new black sand beaches like Pohoiki. The shoulder months of April, May, September, and October are particularly good as they offer the pleasant weather of the dry season with fewer crowds, which can enhance the experience for couples seeking a more tranquil exploration of the natural landscape.
Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?
You can cancel your hotel reservation on Expedia, though it depends on the cancellation policy of your booking. Most bookings are refundable if canceled within 24-48 hours of the scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. If free cancellation is available, you can cancel directly through your Expedia account by logging in, going to "My Trips", and selecting your reservation. To find flexible deals, filter your search by "Fully refundable property" for hotels in Kaimu.
How much is the nightly rate at a Kaimu hotel?
Prices for hotels in Kaimu often vary, but you can find a great deal from CA $78 on Expedia. All sorts of factors affect price, such as the time of year or the days of the week you choose for your stay. Find the best deals by being flexible with your dates, and sort search results by "Price: low to high" for the cheapest rate.
