- Disliked: Staff & service
As soon as we had walked into Clarendon, we were immediately stopped at the bottom of the stairs by a man dressed in casual stripped short-sleeved shirt, rushing the down the stairs. He proceeded to immediately ask us, "Excuse me, but what are you doing here?"..no bonjours, nothing. I answered that we had a reservation booked. In response, he flatly told us that the hotel was closed due to a fire. There were no signs posted at the door. The man's attitude was far from hospitable. He then demanded several times to see my identification and had essentially treated us like trespassers. We had just come from Valcartier and the experience between both hotels were Night and Day. He took my Cdn passport back to his computer to check his record. We were expecting that he would've been able to provide us with some relocation details but instead, he returned with the same response in that we had to leave. It was getting dark. It was cold and snowing heavily outside. We asked if we could take a minute to make a phone call to Expedia. He coldly said "no" without sparing us any level of empathy or patience and repeatedly told us that we had to leave immediately. He offered no other places where we could take cover and was extremely rude to us. His objective from the start was to get us out of the place like a couple of sewer rats. As tourists, to be "shooed" out into the cold and snowy streets like that with our luggage and bags...boy, I will never EVER forget experience.

Basic but nice
Very friendly staff! The amenities are basic, the room clean and comfortable.

Hotel's staff was very nice. Everyone very helpful and spoke decent English! The room was just the right size for my husband and I. The building itself I think is on the older side so the bathroom and rooms are older than other hotels I've stayed at but the facilities are kept very clean. We also liked the fact that there was valet service for the car and you pay a flat fee daily no matter how many times you take the car in and out. The location of the hotel is perfect, though, because it's right in the center of old city. Everything is walking distance, it's literally 2 blocks from the Chateau de Frontenac. I love that we were able to shop, come back to the hotel, go back out for lunch, come back for a nap and go back out for dinner. I would definitely stay here again. Price was pretty reasonable but I'm actually told that the time we went (Mid January) was off season so that's probably why. It's not bad coming during this season at all, though. We didn't have to wait in line for anything...although it was freezing cold so just make sure you bring enough layers and bundle up. The only minus for me was that one of their elevators was broken...the one closest to our room so we literally had to do walk around the building from the elevator that was working to our room.

Nice hotel with a lot of character.
Nice hotel close to the heart of Quebec City. Helpful friendly staff. Hotel had a nice historic feel. Room was cozy and comfortable. Note, not all taxis in Quebec City accept credit cards and our taxis driver got very angry when I did not have cash.
