OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa

8/10 Good
"Facility is a bit outdated. Loved the power/heated toilet! Bathtub was significantly chipped and has seen better days. Room was good sized, bathroom was nice. In-room mini fridge and coffee service was a plus. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The 'adult' pool is in the middle of the buildings, which means it gets VERY limited sun. The 'everyone' pool is shallow--I don't think it got above 3.5 or 4 feet--and the water temp was in the 90s. The sandy zero-depth entry for the kids spread pebbles everywhere, not fund for us old folks who don't walk around outside that often with no shoes on, and especially not on rocks."

"Mango and Sunset sits on an active coffee farm and the property is stunning. We are already looking forward to our next stay. Kriss and Gene are warm and lovely hosts. As someone who has allergies one of the reasons I booked our accommodations at this unforgettable bread and breakfast was the hypoallergenic bedding and hardwood floors. The breakfast menu is thougtfully planned and scrumptious! Bonus: beautiful roosters and chickens as well as cute, friendly kitties who roam the property!"

Kona Coast Original Beach Boys 9.5 acre Estate, Pool and Amazing Ocean Views

10/10 Excellent
"This is a really cool property. We had a hard time finding somewhere big enough for our multigenerational group. This house gave us plenty of space to spread out. The grounds are huge and the kids enjoyed exploring and finding different fruits. The host is great, super responsive and helpful. Was a little concerned about not having central AC but it cools down at night and wasn’t bad with the windows open. The house is secluded so you definitely need a car and be prepared for a lot of driving if you plan to be out of the house."

The best time to visit Captain Cook is during the dry season, which runs from April to October, offering warm weather and minimal rainfall. This period is ideal for enjoying the area's outdoor activities, such as snorkelling, diving, and exploring the coffee farms. The calmer waters during these months make for excellent conditions at Kealakekua Bay, a well-known spot for marine life. For those looking to avoid the busiest crowds and potentially find better value on accommodation and flights, the shoulder months of April, May, September, and October are particularly good. The weather remains pleasant, but the peak tourist rush of summer is less pronounced. If your primary goal is whale watching, the season typically runs from December to May, with the peak months being January through March.
