"Customers need to be warned that this isn't a hotel and the room wasn't really a room, but rather a screened-in porch. There were no windows to close - only screens. There was no shower, but rather a bathtub where people from the outside could see anyone in the tub. The bathroom sink was actually a kitchen sink that came with cockroaches. The bed was in very bad condition, sinking in the middle. There was poor lighting, no air conditioning, and nearly deafening noise from frogs outside. When we arrived, it was completely dark and to reach our room, you were required to climb a steep hill/driveway. The breakfast consisted of some cut up fruit, wheat bread, oatmeal, and coffee. The owner was friendly, trying to be accomodating and helpful."

"Super worth it! Clean room. Coffee shop is great. Restaurant was good but not many options. Staff was really nice. Property was beautiful. The store and the staff in that store were amazing. The only con was no regulating pool area so Saturday night was super busy with young adults and was very loud until the pool closed. We had a room right above the pool and even with the door shut it was so loud. We couldn’t even fit in either hot tub because it was overrun with young adults who were obviously not guests at all. Other than that, I’d definitely recommend this resort. "

"The breakfast was amazing"

"We had a lovely stay and wish it could have been longer. The house has a very well stocked kitchen, everything you could possibly need and the bed is very comfortable . The breeze keeps the house comfortable and for the most part the mosquitoes away, but we did have 1 night when they were out, but the hosts supple bug spray so all good. The view and sunsets are beautiful and the area is so peaceful, a very restful place to stay."

"Maka Nui is a beautiful house, overlooking the green landscape of Captain Cook and blue waters of the Pacific. It easily fit our extended family for a family get-away, and was a wonderful and relaxing base with which to explore Kona and the rest of the Big Island. The location in Captain Cook was convenient to groceries and some restaurants, while still being close enough to Kona for snorkeling cruises and surf lessons. Arrival and check-in was easy, and the host was responsive to all of our questions. The house is well apportioned with bedrooms and bathrooms. We could have spent the entire time on the lanai, looking over the landscape below. It was an absolute treat."

"Our stay at Gingerhill Farm Retreat was a unique and grounding experience. We stayed in the Bamboo cabin with an outdoor kitchen, shower, and sink, all supplied with propane and warm water, along with a clean compost toilet. The space was designed as an open lanai, allowing for natural cross-ventilation. We never needed the fan. The cabin was surrounded by lush vegetation, with the sounds of the jungle creating a vivid atmosphere at night and in the early morning. The common areas include a terrace overlooking the ocean beyond the tree line, offering beautiful sunset views. The staff was attentive and supportive throughout our stay. We also had the honor of meeting the owner, Ms. Mayumi Oda, often referred to as the “Matisse of Japan,” whose vision promotes healthy living and environmental awareness. This experience offered a rare balance between natural living and everyday comfort. It felt less like a stay and more like an immersion into a different way of being."

"It was a nice stay with a bedroom separated from the kitchen by a large barn door. The driveway was narrow but typical for the area and we could park right in front of the apartment. It had a full-sized refridgerator but no ice tray and no microwave. Except for the occasional barking dog it was quiet and the coqui frogs sang us to sleep."

"Fantastic place to stay. The view was amazing, yes, from every room.The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook (and I found an great market just up the hill)."
