"A charming historic building nicely decorated"
Pleasant staff, nice newly remodeled facility. Not a 4-star property though based on amenities and details. A complimentary bottle of red wine in the room - I asked if it could be exchanged for white as I don't drink red and the answer was no. Wine in the room, but no wine opener. Laundry list, but no laundry bag. Very nice breakfast, served til 11am, definitely recommend. Beautiful facility overall, but I could hear all the noise from the hallway in my room very clearly, not enough sound proof. In the basement there is a gym and a spa room/massage. When you are having a massage you can hear everything that's going on in the gym and there is no music in the massage room to cover it up a bit. Really liked a young girl that worked at the reception during day time. Tried to get a bottle of white wine from room service one night and they were "out of white wine". Overall a pleasant experience and I definitely recommend this hotel, but don't expect it to be a 4-star hotel as there are little details missing.

"Pleasant"
This is a good alternative to the Hilton Hotel that is just up the road. It's clean, appears to have been recently updated, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Hotel was nice, great pool. Food in the hotel was just ok and breakfast buffet was below average. Nice restaurants outside of hotels, better food and less expensive but staff was good and hotel is well maintained.

"Europa, Santo Domingo"
I have stayed at the Europa the last four years when coming to the Domincan Republic. I like staying in the Colonial Zone. There are some interesting museums near by, and other architecturaly interesting buildings. This area has slowly started to get rebuilt. But side walks, trash, and noise levels all need to be improved on. It's worth a night or two, not much more.

"Very nice facility in colonial building"
I stayed in a superior room. Large and comfortable, including the bathroom. The bathroom has instant hot water for both the sink and the shower. The air conditioning was temperamental, sometimes working well, and sometimes not. The elevator was temperamental as well. The hotel is located on Calle Duarte, just off the Conde, very close to an excellent new supermarket. The staff are very efficient, but much less friendly than at other hotels. Facilities include a swimming pool and gym. I used neither, but they both looked to be decently maintained. Some have complained about the lack of variety of breakfast offerings, but I thought the breakfast was quite good. In fact, I was looking for a repeat of the excellent mangu that was served on my first morning, but it did not reappear during the following six days. The restaurant / dining area has a outside / courtyard part, and an inside part. The inside area is a bit depressing. They have installed harsh bright white fluorescent bulbs in the lighting, which detract significantly from the ambiance. Those bulbs should be replaced.

"the old part of the city in the best comfort"
With four days to explore Santo Domingo history we decided to stay in the oldest part of the city. The history was really interesting and we took our time strolling around and learning. The most important part of our stay was how we felt at home in this hotel. Casas del XVI has everything one could need in a city and it is within walking distance of all we wanted to see and some very good restaurants. The staff at Casas del XVI were outstanding - friendly, polite and very helpful to all our needs. Our room was ideal and we lacked nothing. Every morning we ate breakfast in the courtyard which was very "personal" and relaxing. The breakfast options were varied and we ate something different every morning - all were very good. We highly recommend Casas del XVI.
