My partner and I were very excited about our trip when we booked the hotel. Advertised were things like a great location, great restaurant, free wifi, and a free shuttle that would pick you up from the airport.
I called a week before the reservation to inquire about the shuttle service and the first thing I was met with was an apathetic staff telling me immediately they only picked up from LaGuardia. Understandable the hotel is very close to LaGuardia.
Last week, my partner and I checked in and were excited to spend time together. After setting up our room we decided to go up to the Prime Met (the restaurant on the rooftop) and were seated hastily. Looking at the menu I was excited to order, however after waiting almost an hour for a server to come and ask us for our drink order the anticipation of receiving the meal made me irritable. The server brought us one glass of water for the table and had to be reminded twice for my drink order. I ordered a salmon that had so much wasabi it felt like I was going to cry the whole time eating it.
The area around the hotel felt very unsafe, there was broken glass all over the entrance and the surrounding 37th Street. Garbage, boarded-up buildings, and cars that seemed to have been broken into.
From the 8th floor, there wasn't much to look out for except for nearby construction and the airport.
We tried not to let that tamper the mood, except finding out the free wifi was only for Marriot Bonvoy members and minimum USD12.99 otherwise. I
